      This is a nonpartisan position, and the expectation is that the successful candidate will remain free from political party affiliation, bias, or designation for the duration of the appointment.

      The office of Senate Counsel, Research, and Fiscal Analysis (SCRFA) is accepting applications for one Drafting Support Specialist.       Salary: $46,271 - $77,424 (Salary will be set commensurate with experience)

      Telework: This position will work primarily on-site during the legislative session and may involve after-hours and weekend remote work.

      Position Summary

      The purpose of this position is to serve as a Drafting Support Specialist to Senate Counsel Attorneys, Research Analysts, and Fiscal Analysts to prepare legislative documents, draft summaries, prepare memos, and complete other miscellaneous tasks as needed.

      Primary Responsibilities

      • Prepare a range of documents including bill drafts, amendments, memos, and bill summaries for the office of Senate Counsel, Research, and Fiscal Analysis.

      • Proofread assigned bill drafts, amendments, engrossments, summaries, memos, or other documents for accuracy.

      • Provide administrative, clerical, and technical support to the office of Senate Counsel, Research, and Fiscal Analysis to maintain office functionality.

      Minimum Qualifications

      Please ensure that your resume clearly identifies your knowledge/ability in the areas listed below.

      A High School diploma/GED/equivalent AND One (1) year of experience as listed below.

      Experience should include: Writing or editing in a professional setting, legal work, drafting bill summaries and amendments, or proofreading bill drafts, amendments, engrossments, summaries, memos, or other documents.

      In addition to the qualifications listed above, applicants must also show strong skills in the area of:

      • Discretion and confidentiality.

      • The ability to work long hours during the legislative session.

      • Oral and written communications skills.

      • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Word and ability to learn specialized software systems.

      Preferred Qualifications

      • Bachelor’s Degree.

      • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

      • Knowledge and understanding of the legislative process.

      • Ability to balance conflicting demands.

      • Ability to learn and follow legislative terminology and proceedings.

      • Demonstrated proofreading, editing, grammar, and spelling skills.

      • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

      • Ability to produce very accurate work under time pressure.

      • Previous legislative experience and knowledge of the Revisor of Statutes bill drafting system.
