The key services that we are responsible for are delivered by our in-house, highly skilled workforce. We collect and treat the water that customers have used, returning it to the environment via rivers and coastal outlets. Our network includes over 7,000 pumping stations and 76,000 kilometres of sewers which feed over 1,000 water recycling centres.
What you will be doing?
You will be working directly with sewage dealing with a wide range of issues on our network, including blockages, odours, flooding and incidents across Colchester, Ipswich and surrounding areas. You will be required to undertake standby duties and weekend shifts on a rota basis .
Your duties will include:
- Operating a single person, high pressure water jetting unit which you will be trained in as well as specific CCTV equipment- helping to identify and promote repair work for any problems found on our sewerage network.
- Taking ownership for investigating and offering first time resolutions for sewerage issues encountered by our customers.
- Responding to incidents, and completing planned maintenance work
- Accurately collating and recording all feedback from site through our IT systems.
- Predominately lone working, engaging with both our internal and external customers on a daily basis .
What does it take to be a Drainage Operative?
- Exposure within the sewerage environment is desirable
- Experience or willingness to work outside in all weathers
- Basic IT skills
- Ability to work autonomously as well using your own initiative
- Excellent customer service skills
- Great communication skills
- Full driving license- having a 4.5 tonne license would be advantageous as the role will eventually require this (training will be provided if needed)
- In this role you must be able to work within a confined space, and at height without restrictions. Due to harness weight limits, y our maximum weight cannot be in excess of 113 kilograms, and you will be expected to complete relevant occupational health checks including Han d-arm Vibration (HAV)
