      The Opportunity:

      The Department of County Human Services (DCHS) invites applications for a Domestic Violence Response Advocate position with the Youth and Family Services Division (YFS). We are currently recruiting for one (1) full-time position. This position is scheduled as Hybrid Telework, will be scheduled 40 hours a week Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. All employees must reside in Oregon or Washington; the county cannot support ongoing telework from other locations. The onsite work location for this position is at the Gateway MDT Building located at 10225 E Burnside, Portland OR 97216. NOTE: This position is contingent on successfully passing a secondary in-depth background check with Portland Police Bureau.

      The eligible list created from this recruitment may be used to fill future regular, limited duration, temporary, on-call, full or part-time assignments within the Department of County Human Services.

      Who we are: The Youth and Family Services (YFS) Division breaks down barriers that prevent people from fully realizing their potential.       About the Position: The Domestic Violence Enhanced Response Team Advocate will be responsible for providing trauma informed advocacy and strength based case management services to survivors of domestic violence that are at high risk for lethality or severe recidivism. The advocate will be co-located with law enforcement and will work as a part of a collaborative multi-disciplinary team response model that provides wrap-around services to survivors and their children, and seeks accountability for perpetrators of family violence.

      The eligible list created from this recruitment may also be used to fill future regular, limited duration, or temporary positions in DCHS.

      Primary responsibilities include:

      • Crisis response and advocacy that is trauma informed and survivor led

      • Follow-up safety planning and support

      • Outreach and community education

      • Participation in meetings, training and case staffing

      • Reporting and documentation of statistics and other information

      The successful candidate will demonstrate:

      • Ability to promote a culture of respect, inclusiveness, and appreciation of diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and values

      • Knowledge of principles and practices of crisis intervention

      • Knowledge of lethality indicators and safety planning

      • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices that actively resist re-traumatization of individuals and communities

      • Knowledge of criminal and civil legal systems

      • Ability to collaborate and build relationships to achieve positive work outcomes

      • Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team

      Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills*:

      • Associate's degree in social work, sociology, psychology, criminal justice or a related field

      • One (1) to four (4) years of experience in direct service to clients who have been harmed by domestic violence. (Equivalency 3-6 years of qualifying training and/or experience).

      • Must have completed the 40-Hour Domestic Violence Advocate Training from the State of Oregon or equivalent from the other State OR have the ability to complete within 3 months of hire.

      • Must pass a criminal background check with Multnomah County and an additional in-depth criminal background check with the Portland Police Bureau (these steps occur after a job offer)

      • Must have a valid driver license

      Type of Position: This hourly union-represented position is eligible for overtime pay.
