      The Europe and Central Asia (ECA) Region

      The World Bank Group works with countries in Europe and Central Asia to eliminate poverty and promote shared prosperity, through boosting human capital, enabling markets, facilitating green transitions, and building & strengthening institutions.

      The Europe and Central Asia (ECA) region comprises 30 diverse countries, with a population of nearly 500 million people. Majority of the countries are high and upper middle-income countries with only three being low-income IDA countries. ECA has an active portfolio of 258 projects with net commitment of around US$47 billion and a strong lending pipeline. Knowledge is critical to the Bank’s value proposition to client countries in the ECA region.       Country Management Unit (CMU) for Western Balkans

      The Western Balkan CMU maintains and fosters all operational relationships with Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia. The Regional Director oversees the program from the Vienna office, and the CMU has offices in each country headed by Country Managers.

      The World Bank portfolio of active projects in BiH comprises 9 operations totaling around $500 million. Areas of support include health care, road modernization, employment and social protection, energy efficiency, local infrastructure, and environment.

      The Bosnia and Herzegovina CPF (FY23-27) was endorsed by the Board on July 19, 2022. The new CPF program based on the SCD and the emerging impact of COVID-19 identifies three broad areas that will guide the WBG’s engagement even beyond this CPF cycle. The first area will aim at increased inclusive private sector employment, the second at improved sustainable service delivery, and the third on supporting BiH with improving its resilience to climate change.

      The Sarajevo Country Office consists of 20 staff from all Practice Groups and other units. It is led by Country Manager overseeing the World Bank programs in BiH and Montenegro.

      Duties and Accountabilities:

      The Team Assistant (TA) for Bosnia and Herzegovina will report to the Country Manager (CM) and will work closely with the Bosnia and Herzegovina country team as well as to other Global Practice teams as necessary. The TA will also provide back up support to other ACS team members, especially during peak periods.

      Specific responsibilities will include the following:
      • Carries out the full range of office support work, including managing processes and monitoring schedules related to various team’s/unit’ products and tasks
      • Screens/handles incoming calls for the Country Office
      • Handles mail/diplomatic pouch for the Country Office
      • Assists teams with car transfer/transportation services within the country
      • Assists in preparation and logistical planning for various events, e.g. conferences, workshops, negotiations, etc
      • Assists with invoice approvals and processing
      • Assists with/arranges travel for counterparts travelling to WB organized events Assists teams by translating/drafting a variety of routine documents, applying effective proofreading and grammar skills in English and Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian language
      • Keeps distribution lists up to date, maintains phone/address lists of project/product contacts, and distributes documents for the team/teams
      • Maintains project files and online archives
      • Coordinates extensively with service units and liaise frequently with team members both at headquarters and in the field, as well as external counterparts
      • Drafts routine correspondence and proofreads materials using proper grammar, punctuation, and style.
      • Incorporates agreed comments into documents, making full use of shared drives and software capabilities
      • Uses word processing or desktop publishing skills to produce complex text, reports, figures, graphs, etc., according to standard Bank formats and distribution
      • Coordinates schedules taking priorities into account, monitors changes, and communicates the information to appropriate staff, inside and outside of the Country Office, including officials outside the World Bank Group
      • Undertakes ad hoc assignments that may be assigned and provides back up support to other ACS team members, especially during peak periods.
      • Solves non-routine problems (e.g. responds to requests requiring file search, etc.)

      Selection Criteria

      • Technology and systems knowledge - Demonstrates advanced knowledge and experience working with Microsoft office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.). Has ability and willingness to maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills as technology.
      • Project and task management - Exhibits good organizational, problem-solving skills and ability to work competently with minimal supervision. Demonstrates attention to detail and quality. Has ability to manage multiple tasks and complete tasks within agreed schedule.
      • Institutional policies, processes, and procedures - Demonstrates knowledge of own department's programs and products, knows key players, understands own role. Displays understanding of WB policies and procedures relevant to the area of assigned responsibilities and is able to apply/ implement them.
      • Versatility and adaptability - Demonstrates flexibility and is receptive to the implementation of new solutions. Is willing to stretch own capability. Demonstrates motivation to avail and adapt oneself to effecting change.
      • Client Orientation - Exhibits positive and professional client service attitude; is able to understand clients' needs and complete them professionally.
      • Drive for Results - Takes personal ownership and accountability to meet deadlines and achieve agreed-upon results and has the personal organization to do so.
      • Teamwork (Collaboration) and Inclusion - Collaborates with other team members and contributes productively to the team's work and output, demonstrating respect for different points of view.
      • Knowledge, Learning and Communication - Has good knowledge of official unit's language(s). Able to write clearly, edit and proofread draft communications. Able learn and share knowledge/information across the unit.
      • Business Judgment and Analytical Decision Making - Able to manage information and support retention and disposition of information and records. Can search, report, and deliver basic information from various sources and independently respond to basic inquires.
      Other Selection Criteria
      • Bachelor’s degree
      • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience; relevant experience in working in an international organization is an advantage
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian language
      • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
