      WSP is currently initiating a search for an Early Career Mechanical Engineer to work out of Denver, CO. Be involved in projects with our Federal Programs Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

      Your Impact
      • Under guidance of senior manager, perform mechanical engineering design and production support from project inception through construction.
      • Leverage analytical and design skills and ability to solve complex technical problems in professional discipline.
      • Utilize advanced analytical techniques and computer software tools and applications (i.e. REVIT, AutoCAD, Trace 3D Plus) in solving technical/mechanical engineering problems.
      • Exhibit learned practices to produce high quality technical and professional deliverables on Federal Government/military projects.
      • Assist in determining well-defined methods for collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, schematics, data, technical drawings, computer-generated reports, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction.
      • Perform professional mechanical engineering work and conduct research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, resources, building, usage, and mechanical systems to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.
      • Assist in the development of construction and installation plans, specifications, and cost estimates; preparing construction safety and phasing plans and updating building layout plans that require coordination with owners, other disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients.
      • Incorporate advanced technology, modeling techniques, concept development, design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies to account for the proper installation and functioning of equipment and systems according to specifications (SpecsIntact, UFGS), implementing future-ready solutions with mechanical engineering design standards (Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC)).
      • Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance on various engineering, design, and construction issues relating to automatic temperature control systems and specifications, air distribution (supply, return, exhaust), hydronic systems (chilled water, heating water, etc.) and plumbing systems (domestic water, waste, vent, storm, etc.).
      • Work as part of a cross-functional team of engineers, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work on multiple concurrent projects, assist with laying out installation of equipment, calculating costs and quantities of material/equipment/labor, and ensuring project work conforms with specifications, permit applications, schematics, compliance documentation, and regulatory and technical analysis memos.
      • Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, sketches, calculations, technical drawings, spreadsheets, and illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses.
      • Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting.
      • Assist with development and scoping of medium-sized projects.
      • Prepare technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, and recommendations to improve, prevent, control, restore, or address design and/or construction issues or opportunities.
      • Assist in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of data obtained during field investigations, offering input with developing action plans for moderate- to high-level risk installation, equipment operations, and/or mitigation activities.
      • Comply with regulatory requirements pertaining to the data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems, and record compliance and retention.
      • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
      • Remain current in latest mechanical engineering techniques and practices.
      • Work collaboratively with other engineers and planners on projects with building authorities on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects.
      • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
      • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

      Required Qualifications
      • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or closely related discipline from an accredited university.
      • Engineer in Training Certification.
      • Strong proficiency in and previous hands-on application of REVIT design software.
      • 0-1 years of experience utilizing Revit for drawing mechanical building systems such as HVAC, fire protection, and plumbing.
      • Ability to obtain a US Government issued Secret level clearance.
      • Proficient knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, practices and processes.
      • Working knowledge of relevant mechanical systems, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
      • Ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
      • Ability to plan and conduct inspections and investigations on various aspects of the construction and design of facilities, structures and systems.
      • Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
      • Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
      • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software (i.e., AutoCAD, Revit), technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
      • Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, load calculations, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
      • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
      • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
      • Occasional travel (which may include overnight stays) may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

      Preferred Qualifications
      • Experience using Trace 3D for building load and energy calculations.
      • Mechanical system design experience on federal and/or military projects.
      • Familiarity with Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) system.
      • Active US Government-issued Secret clearance.

      Compensation:
      Expected Salary (Colorado only): $63,400 - $87,120

      WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position within the state of Colorado, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
