      Department Summary

The audit data analytics team is responsible for assisting audit teams to undertake high quality and efficient audits by best leveraging client data. The primary tool used by the team is Alteryx, but we also provide support in the use of other tools utilised in audit.

Our core work is split into three main channels:
Assisting teams in obtaining client financial and non-financial data, and wrangling this into a standardised format for use in our many applications and bespoke work; and
Developing apps in-house to allow audit teams to use a standardised approach to common testing routines; and
Performing highly detailed and bespoke work under the direction of audit teams.
In addition to the above, we are constantly reviewing and testing internal and third-party tools and arranging pilots / roll outs as necessary.

      What will you learn

The audit and accounting industry is in agreement that data and data analytics are here to stay and will only become increasingly important over the coming months and years. As such, a career in audit data analytics will put you at the forefront of the use of technology in audit and the scope of analytics in business environments.

You will be trained in the use of Alteryx and quickly be involved in the completion of bespoke audit work, app development, as well as the critical underpinnings of data ingestion and transformation.

As well as gaining data qualifications there is the opportunity to work towards an accounting qualification as well.

      What will you do

You will receive training in how to use our primary data analytics tool, Alteryx – completing the Alteryx Core exam to certify your learning and competence with the tool.

You will have the opportunity to be involved in the design and update of Alteryx apps.
Depending on your involvement in industry specific audits, there may be the opportunity to influence sector specific app development.

You will be involved in the development and completion of bespoke analytic work to support audit teams in addressing specific assertions on file.

      What can you expect?

RSM’s early digital careers programme offers a range of informal and formal development opportunities. From day one, you will join with trainees across the firm to receive core training in professional and soft skills. Alongside this you will benefit from specific technology skills training focussed on our digital and data services, for example Agile project delivery, as well as learning how to use our core tools, including Alteryx and Power BI. We will also support business related qualifications where this is relevant and beneficial to your role.

Following your basic enablement, you’ll join colleagues in delivering live client engagements. No two journeys will be the same, as each client experience is different, but you’ll have the opportunity to learn from experienced members of the team and understand how digital and data projects are delivered. This hands-on experience is invaluable as you take the next steps in your career.

      What we look for

We’re on the lookout for students with a passion for digital and a ‘can-do’ attitude who are prepared to work hard and take on high levels of responsibility. We also look for team players who enjoy interacting with others and are curious about how digital technology can generate real benefit for businesses. As a digital advocate, you will be expected to share your knowledge and insights with your colleagues and clients and help them embrace the opportunities and challenges of the digital era.

You may be working on multiple projects at the same time, so time management and organisational skills are key. Confidence with numbers and business awareness is a must, but you’ll also need excellent communication skills and be able to forge strong working relationships with people from all backgrounds. Competency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is essential. If that sounds like you, we know you’ll enjoy being part of our team
