      Senior Associate / Associate – Econometrician or Data Analyst

      About the team you’ll be part of

      Ofcom’s Economics and Analytics Group is a dynamic, international team of around 100 competition and regulatory economists, data analysts and finance experts. Within this Group, we have a 15-strong specialist Data Analytics Team.

      Purpose of the role :

      We have two streams of specialism

      • Econometrician: We are seeking candidates with experience in econometrics. This includes expertise in policy evaluation (e.g., Difference-in-Difference, RDD etc.), empirical industrial organization, and the ability to combine Machine Learning with Econometrics.
      • Data Analyst: If you have a strong background in applying data analysis to answer policy and business questions, this role is for you. You will use your quantitative skill set to assess policy outcomes and provide insights for supervision, enforcement, and policy iterations.

      Your key responsibilities

      You will collaborate with a vibrant team of economists, data analysts, policy professionals, market researchers, technologists and lawyers on projects spanning various sectors. Your responsibilities will include:

      • Providing high-quality quantitative analysis on a variety of projects, including exploring different perspectives and addressing key policy issues.
      • Working with large data sets, spreadsheets, and statistical software and using a range of techniques such as econometrics and machine learning.
      • Producing clear and well-reasoned documents, including publications.
      • Communicating quantitative (e.g. econometric) concepts effectively in internal meetings and engaging with stakeholders.
      • Collaborating with senior colleagues and multidisciplinary teams to deliver impactful outcomes.

      The skills, knowledge, and experience you’ll need for success.

      • A solid foundation in applied quantitative analysis gained through training in areas such as econometrics, data analytics/science or statistics.
      • Demonstrated experience applying econometrics or data analytics in real-world scenarios within a consultancy, regulator, competition or consumer authority, government department, academic institution, or regulated company.
      • The ability to interpret complex information with attention to detail, with economic skills being an advantage.
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
      • The ability to collaborate seamlessly with multidisciplinary teams.
      • A degree in econometrics/economics or a related quantitative discipline, with a postgraduate qualification being desirable but not essential.
