He angitūtanga: The opportunity
We have a fantastic opportunity for an Economist / Senior Economist to join Auckland Council’s Chief Economist Unit. Be part of a collaborative team that provides independent, evidence-based advice on the policy issues and trade-offs that matter for Auckland's wellbeing.
Support the Chief Economist in providing leadership on key issues for Auckland Council, by using sound economic analysis. Help build the reputation of the Chief Economist Unit for technical and applied expertise, especially in the fields of urban economics and economic appraisal.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include undertaking analysis of urban economic issues, using key data sets, advising council staff on the economic implications of policy and investment proposals, and building awareness of resource impacts and trade-offs. The aim is to enable informed decision-making by Auckland Council on behalf of Aucklanders.
The range of issues span land use, urban development policy, the housing market, infrastructure funding and finance, the transport system, environmental matters, as well as the macroeconomic cycle and outlook.
In a Senior Economist role, you would not only support the work, but will also play a lead role in identifying and delivering analytical workstreams. He kōrero mōu: About you

Equipped with an excellent quantitative background, you have experience in dealing with large data sets, ideally land use, housing, or transport data. You have a good grounding in cost-benefit analysis and have worked with econometric techniques to answer research or policy questions.
This mix of skills and behaviours enables you to deliver results and influence your stakeholders.
A postgraduate qualification in economics is desirable, as is an affinity for Auckland.Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou: What we offer
