      Reporting to the Director, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion at UTSC, the EDI Coordinator will provide a high level of confidential administrative support to the Office and Director in the development, implementation and administration of the University’s equity, diversity, and inclusion programming to meet the needs of UTSC students, staff and faculty.

      The UTSC EDI Coordinator will participate in the development and delivery of education/training sessions for students, staff and faculty pertaining to equity, diversity, inclusion, discrimination, and harassment. Under the direction of the UTSC Director, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, the incumbent will also work collaboratively with other University of Toronto Equity Officers to participate in the development and delivery of education, training and programming on broader issues of equity, diversity & inclusion.

      The incumbent will also work closely with members of the Division of HR & Equity, UTSC Student Experience & Wellbeing portfolios, and with UTSC student organizations, clubs and groups implementing programming, educational and outreach initiatives related to equity, diversity, inclusion, discrimination, and harassment; student Experience & Wellbeing professionals, the broader university equity team, partners both within the University and the external community and displays an understanding of the University’s commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.

      The EDI Coordinator will act as a resource and will provide confidential assistance with case intake for unionized and non-unionized staff, faculty, and students. This may include providing information about services, options, relevant policies, and appropriate referrals to UTSC students, staff, and faculty.

      The EDI Coordinator will brief the Director on emerging issues as they are identified, analyze, and revise documents and policy drafts, research special projects, and identify and implement opportunities for improvements and efficiencies in office procedures.

      The incumbent works in a complex environment that requires a high degree of sensitivity, responsiveness, and a need to maintain absolute confidentiality. The incumbent represents the University on relevant committees inside and outside the University community, providing assistance, information, outreach, resources and referrals.

      QUALIFICATIONS

      EDUCATION:

      University degree in a related field such as Education/Social Sciences or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

      EXPERIENCE:

      Minimum three to five years related experience;

      A thorough understanding of equity, diversity, inclusion, and discrimination and harassment prevention frameworks;

      Demonstrated experience researching, developing and delivering educational workshops & programs, public education materials, promotional materials; and/or community initiatives related to human rights education;

      Knowledge and significant experience with students, youth, leadership and related programming. Demonstrated excellent administrative and coordination skills;

      Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion including discrimination faced by marginalized communities. Demonstrated experience with successful large and small event planning;

      Relevant experience working/volunteering in a student society or campus organization an asset;

      Experience marketing programs in a higher education institution;

      Experience working with social media in a professional context;

      Thorough understanding of the Ontario Human Rights Code and relevant legislation/case law;

      Applicants are also expected to show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment;

      Experience with developing and leading anti-racism, homophobia, transphobia, and/or sexual gender diversity education, and providing related support services will be an asset;

      Professional experience in and understanding of complex issues related to equity and diversity as they relate to the student experience and the workplace strongly preferred;

      Experience working within a post-secondary context is strongly preferred.

      SKILLS:

      Proficiency in a PC environment, including standard office computer applications (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email, etc.);

      Demonstrated skills in graphic design software (e.g. Illustrator, Photoshop, In Design) and web development and maintenance.

      Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, and leadership skills;

      Superior written, editing and oral communication skills;

      Excellent organizational and program development skills.

      OTHER:

      Tact, discretion, good judgement and ability to maintain strict confidentiality;

      Ability to develop and deliver effective presentations;

      Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse constituencies and communities in a team environment;

      Demonstrated abilities to multi-task, trouble shoot and problem solve;

      Ability to be innovative and work independently;

      Demonstrated ability to relate to students, staff, and faculty that builds trust and confidence. Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines;

      Awareness of student environments, campus systems and organizations, and the University’s policies and procedures related to student life and activities, strongly preferred.
