Job Description
- Req#: 48302
- Identify authors and support them in developing and producing their projects
- Solicit, read and evaluate book proposals offered by authors, as well as assess their suitability for the list
- Meet goals set by editorial management such as contracts signed and manuscripts handed over to production
- Maintain profitable relationships with book series editors, authors and advisors
- Negotiate contract terms with authors
- Remain a point of contact for authors/editors throughout the publication process
- Research market trends on a national and international level
- Manage the back-list, make decisions on publishing potential and new editions of successful titles
- Conduct market and competitive research in assigned subject area
- Business travel to conferences (domestic and international) as required
- Work closely with the editorial support teams to ensure book projects are published to schedule
- Excellent English language skills
- Educated at least to degree level or equivalent
- Have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be numerate and IT systems-literate, with a sharp eye for detail
- Be a diplomatic and assertive individual who is able to work with demanding stake-holders
- Be able to organise and prioritise numerous tasks and be able to work on their own initiative
- Be resourceful and proactive in dealing with problems and queries
- Have excellent team-working skills to deal with people within the company and externally at all levels
- Excellent networking skills
- Ability to work independently within a team environment
- Previous experience in academic publishing

Location: Dordrecht and New York

The list includes subjects ranging from sustainability, sustainable development, l andscape ecology and urban planning, integrated geography, urban geography, cultural/heritage geography, world regional geography, environmental and urban governance, and economic geography. It contains original works by many of the foremost scholars, writers and editors around the world.
The Editor will acquire and publish content within part of the existing portfolio programme but with a focus on additional new sub-disciplines. They will drive growth and develop their own portfolio as part of the strategically defined overall portfolio of the Publishing Unit.

The position is offered on a full-time, permanent basis, and is considered for either Dordrecht and New York offices.
Employees will be expected to be based in the office 2-3 days per week.

This information is only applicable to US-based candidates and the actual salary offer may vary based on work experience, education and skill level. Annualized Base Salary Range: Editor: $66,000 - $80,000 / Senior Editor: $91,000 - $100,000.
