      Description

      TITLE: Education Supervisor
      DEPARTMENT: Department of Clinical Services
      REPORTS TO: Division Chief - Clinical
      FLSA STATUS: Exempt

      SUMMARY

      This position serves to enhance the clinical practice of MCHD EMS. The Education Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the educational components of the Department of Clinical Services.

      This position requires the interpersonal skills to be an effective supervisor and the ability to inspire individuals by communicating needed changes, motivating individuals to become active participating members of a team and encouraging self-development through a leadership example approach. The Education Supervisor will work collaboratively with the Division Chief - Clinical to ensure that the educational goals of the organization are achieved. In addition, the Education Supervisor will foster exemplary clinical practices among the field personnel and serve as a role model for staff in achievement and maintenance of clinical skills.

      ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

      • Coordinate mandatory and non-mandatory CE programs. Content should be a collaborative effort with the Division Chief - Clinical, Division Chief - Quality, and/or the Medical Director based upon system needs. Provides oversight, and coordination, administrative support, content authoring, curriculum design and process workflow.
      • Manage specific line items department budget. Provide input into department budget planning.
      • Develop staff through training, education and timely feedback for ongoing performance management and employee growth.
      • Create, implement, and hold staff accountable to department and organizational policies and procedures.
      • Reporting metrics as necessary as a part of DCS and TDSHS requirements.
      • Establish and model a service-oriented culture that supports the organizational values.
      • Provides administrative oversight, coordination and instruction for various EMS card course programs: ACLS, PALS, PHTLS, or educational courses as deemed necessary.
      • Serve as Affiliate Faculty for NAEMT for the purpose of evaluating potential instructors and assisting other area NAEMT Sites with instructor and program development.
      • Appropriately invoices external students for Card Courses, Initial EMS Courses (ECA, EMT and AEMT), and other TDSHS or NREMT Lapsed Skills testing as necessary.
      • Serves as the administrator and content design resource for Learning Management System (LMS).
      • Serves as the administrator and maintains system accuracy for E.I.S. database.
      • Serves as the primary point of contact for all external education programs that use MCHD as a clinical site.
      • Serves as a backup to the schedulers for scheduling observers and students.
      • TDSHS Course Coordinator for initial EMS courses including ECA, EMT-B, and Advanced EMT. Serves as primary point of contact with TDSHS for initial EMS courses.
      • Course Coordinator for High School EMT courses that MCHD has an established MOU or MOA.
      • Using CastleBranch, monitors MCHD EMS Students (enrolled in MCHD sponsored initial EMS courses) pre-clinical requirements.
      • Ensures MCHD EMS Students meet clinical affiliate’s requirements and maintains clinicals agreements.
      • Communicates with clinical sites periodically regarding initial EMS students.
      • Meets annually with all MCHD Lead EMT Instructors to collaborate on EMT course requirements.
      • Meets periodically with MCHD EMS Education Advisory Board.
      • Meets periodically with program medical director.
      • Coordinates and schedules all MCHD EMS Students clinical shifts with clinical affiliates or with MCHD.
      • Reviews or delegates the review of all MCHD EMS Student clinical paperwork.
      • Determines if and when MCHD EMS Students are suspended from clinical, dropped from a course, vetted for clinical, or issued course completions.
      • Maintains MCHD EMS CE Program with TDSHS.
      • Works collaboratively with professional development to train and manage internal preceptors.
      • Works collaboratively with Education Specialist, EMT Development Coordinator, and First Responder Captain on various projects.
      • Reviews and approves EMS CE for First Responders under MCHD EMS TDSHS CE Program.
      • Oversee workflow and productivity of Adjunct Instructors.
      • Ensure appropriate organization, maintenance, and care of all educational equipment and supplies.
      • Lecture during CE, or other opportunities, as necessary to field staff as appropriate.
      • Conduct periodic NREMT and TDSHS CE Audits at the request of staff or prior to staff renewal in a timely manner.
      • Monitor all EMS Field Staff position specific certification requirements, consisting of but not limited to TDSHS Certification, Texas Driver License, CPR, ACLS, PALS and PHTLS (or equivalent certifications).
      • Maintain Captain clinical authorization as a PRN field employee as outlined in FOG 007-03.10 PRN employees.
      • Other duties as deemed necessary.

      SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

      The Education Supervisor is responsible for all Adjunct Instructors and Lead EMS Initial Course Instructors.

      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

      • AA/AS or equivalent industry experience required.
      • Previous education/teaching experience to small and large groups required.
      • Previous experience in EMS educational administration preferred.
      • Two years primary paramedic education experience preferred.
      • Previous quality improvement experience preferred.
      • Must hold TDSHS Lic-P or EMT-P.
      • Captain level clinical authorization must be obtained within a timeframe determined by the Division Chief-Clinical & Chief of EMS.
      • Obtain TDSHS EMS-CC Certification.
      • In lieu of EMS-CC, must currently hold EMS-I and must obtain EMS-CC Certification in accordance with TDSHS Policy.

      SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

      • Experience in database management.
      • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint required, including mail-merge features.
      • Moderate word processing, database, presentation and spreadsheet skills required.
      • Basic Email and internet skills required.
      • Ability to learn specific job related software applications.

      CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

      Required:

      • Current Texas Driver's License required.Must remain insurable by the current insurance vendor of MCHD.
      • Texas DSHS Certification or License as EMT-Paramedic.
      • Current ACLS, PALS, PHTLS, and CPR Healthcare Provider cards required.
      • Obtain Instructor in all disciplines within 1 year.
      • Texas DSHS EMS Instructor.
      • Required NIMS Training as referenced in the Safety & Emergency Management Policy SEM 27-201.

      Preferred:

      • Texas DSHS EMS Course Coordinator with experience coordinating EMS courses.
