      This position is located in IRA Hiring Team, in the Interpretation, Education and Cultural Resources Management Group.

      The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for IRA Hiring Team is October- March, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: October 2024

      Duties


      This position is part of the Interpretation, Education and Cultural Resources Management Group at Cape Cod National Seashore. This position supports the park in its work with K-8 curriculum-based education programs, field trips, family and youth programs, teacher workshops, and collaborates with local education groups and agencies.

      Incumbent presents classroom and field programs for grades K-8; researches, develops and writes lesson plans that meet National Park Service and the Next generation Science Standards; coordinates activities with teachers to ensure appropriate materials and presentation techniques are used and that safety measures are planned in advance.

      Incumbent provides classroom and field programs that increase participants' knowledge of local geology and shoreline and processes, identification skills of coastal flora and fauna, and cultural history of the Unit; provides interpretive and educational services to visitors at a visitor center, at field sites in a park, museum, or local community center.

      Cape Cod National Seashore protects forty miles of pristine sandy beach, near-shore waters, marshes, ponds, and uplands that support diverse species. Lighthouses, cultural landscapes, and wild cranberry bogs offer a glimpse of Cape Cod's past and continuing ways of life. Recreational opportunities abound, including fishing, swimming, surfing, boating, hiking, biking, and wildlife viewing. Annual park visitation exceeds 4 million, and summer populations in local towns swell with vacationers and second homeowners.

      Cape Cod National Seashore is located on the outer edge of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The duty station is Wellfleet, MA (approximately 30 miles from Hyannis and 100 miles from Boston). The park is known for its beautiful ocean beaches, fresh water ponds, marshes, bay beaches, woodlands, and dunes. Cape Cod has a rich cultural history and the "lower" cape is home to many art galleries, museums, and regional theaters. Orleans (abutting Eastham) and Provincetown are the principle shopping areas providing all normal services. Public transportation is limited. A car or bike is necessary to get around.

      Qualifications


      All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-09/18/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.

      Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.

      To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess most of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:

      EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is progressively responsible experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is work such as planning and implementing a comprehensive, curriculum-based education program serving students K-12 independently to research, develop, and present education programs, family and youth programs, teacher workshops, and collaborate with local education groups and agencies. You must include hours per week worked.
      -OR-
      EDUCATION: I have graduate level education (18 semester/27 quarter credits) that is directly related to the work of the position. I have provided provide copies of all my transcripts for verification that include hours and grades from an accredited U.S. college/university.
      -OR-
      have a combination education and experience as described above. For example, I have 6 months of the specialized experience (50% of the experience requirement) and 9 semester/ 14 quarter credit hours of graduate education (50% of the qualifying education) directly related to the work of the position. You must include your transcripts.

      Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
