      The Educational Consultant position involves contributing to the delivery of virtual professional development and resource creation to improve the transition-related outcomes of middle and high school students with visual impairments across the state of Tennessee, with a particular focus on supporting rural communities. The educational consultant will work as part of a collaborative team of faculty, staff, and university students at Vanderbilt and other partnering universities to: (a) develop online training modules for transition professionals and parents of students with visual impairments; (b) develop student-facing interactive online lessons; (c) create virtual resources for students with visual impairments, their families, and the professionals who support them; (d) establish communities of practice and regional trainings addressing best practices in transition for students with visual impairments; (e) establish a virtual mentorship program to connect students with visual impairments to adults with visual impairments; and (f) support research in these areas.

      Please note: Up to two new persons may be hired in this position. Effort may be split across multiple transition-related projects in the Department of Special Education at Vanderbilt University.

      Duties and Responsibilities

      In collaboration with other team members, the Educational Consultant will carry out the following activities:

      • Contributing to the development of online modules for professionals as well interactive student lessons
      • Identifying and developing transition-focused resources to support students with visual impairments, families, and professionals
      • Facilitating and supporting communities of practice regarding transition for students with visual impairments
      • Facilitating and supporting a student mentorship program
      • Developing and disseminating a monthly e-newsletter
      • Providing feedback on materials and trainings developed by other team members, as well as receiving such feedback
      • Assisting with data collection and evaluation efforts as part of ongoing research associated with this project
      • Contributing to research dissemination activities through conference presentations as well as preparation of article submissions
      • Supervising the work of students and trainees working on the project
      • Supporting the work of other transition-related projects at Vanderbilt as needed
      • Collaborate both in person and virtually with team members located at Vanderbilt and partner universities

      Qualifications

      • Bachelor’s degree in education, special education, rehabilitation, or other disability-related field is required
      • Master’s degree in special education, rehabilitation, or other disability-related field is preferred
      • Strong communication, writing, and presentation skills
      • Strong computer skills (e.g., word, powerpoint, keynote, excel)
      • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with multiple people as part of a collaborative team, including providing and responding to feedback
      • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks and meet deadlines

      Preferred Qualifications:

      • Experience working with or supporting individuals with visual impairments (e.g., self, family member, professional capacity)
      • Prior middle or high school teaching and/or administrative experience
      • Prior experience working with families
      • Interest in working with/supporting rural communities

      Additional relevant Information:

      • This full-time, exempt position (40 hours per week) is grant-funded
      • Minimal travel throughout the state of Tennessee may be required for this position
      • Salary is dependent upon education and experience
