- 1+ years workplace experience with Canvas LMS
- Strong attention to detail and ability to learn new technologies quickly.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to recognize and recommend necessary changes in user and/or operations procedures.
- Proficiency in managing priorities and handling time-sensitive projects.
- Excellent customer support and interpersonal skills, with the ability to cultivate professional relationships with faculty and staff.
- Strong capability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Effective written and verbal technical communication skills.
- Knowledge of instructional technology and delivery practices for classroom, online, and hybrid learning.
- Strong proficiency in using the latest version of Canvas, including assignments, quizzes, grade book, SpeedGrader, modules, file management, settings, integrations, and rich content editor/page design.
- Working knowledge of Windows 10/11, Mac OS, all MS Office applications, SharePoint, and Google Workspace.
- Ability to manage media content in a cloud-based video management system.
- Basic multimedia creation and editing skills.
- Basic HTML editing skills.
- Proficient in managing and resolving issues using helpdesk ticketing systems.
- 2+ years of experience with Canvas in an instructional technology role at a higher education institution.
- Provides assistance in the direct integration of learning technology into course delivery.
- Diagnoses problems or support issues related to faculty and instructional staff use of Canvas and other instructional technology systems as appropriate.
- Provides one-on-one consultations for Canvas LMS and instructional technology prep and troubleshooting.
- Follow-ups with customers to monitor incident resolution and customer satisfaction.
- Under general guidance, collaborates with other team members and instructional staff to support course delivery technology needs.
- Under direct guidance, assists instructional designers in the development of course materials and testing and implementation of teaching and learning technology systems.
- Stays informed about educational technology updates and developments through release notes, publications, and webinars.
- Under guidance, reviews and updates existing user-support documentation and creates new support materials in written and multimedia formats.
- Continuously adapts to support a variety of course delivery modalities, including in-person, hybrid, online, and other emerging technologies and trends.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.

Position Summary:
The Educational Technology Specialist at the Jones School Office of Technology will serve as the end-user support technician for faculty, academic support staff, and students who utilize the Canvas learning management system and other instructional technology tools at Rice Business. The position will also aid in integrating technologies into course delivery using Canvas to implement and enhance the educational technology strategy of the school.
Ideal Candidate Statement:
The ideal candidate has two or more years of experience in an academic environment working with Canvas LMS, video management platforms, and video conferencing. They possess strong troubleshooting, organizational, and communication skills, are adaptable to new technologies, and provide exceptional customer support and resources to faculty, staff, and students.
Workplace Requirements:
Hybrid position: This position is offered as a hybrid eligible role, combining both in-office and remote work to provide flexibility and support collaboration. [80% onsite/20% hybrid after probationary period]. Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change.
Hiring Range: $59,000 - $67,000
*Exempt (salaried) positions under FLSA are not eligible for overtime.
