- Build community relationships; mobilize communities and organizations to identify and reduce hazardous household exposures.
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external partners.
- Align the outreach and engagement activities with the goals, values, and intentions of the organization’s 10-year comprehensive plan and racial equity plan.
- Engage and plan with community to ensure the near-term delivery of relevant and effective services. Provide support in building skill and capacity for communities to deliver information and services in the future.
- Work with communities to plan, implement, and evaluate in-language and in-culture outreach activities such as events, workshops, trainings, or other tactics in a way that respects partnership and promotes shared power and decision-making.
- Develop and implement engagement and education strategies, tactics, tools, and materials that move people to switch from hazardous products and practices to safer alternatives.
- Ensure quality and evaluation standards for educational and communication activities.
- Provide for the assessment of educational and communication needs and, in partnership with other teams and community partners to develop and implement education/behavior change services and campaigns.
- Identify areas of study and research for community-centered data collection and evaluation plans with guidance from the Program’s Research Team that will result in better-informed, evidence-based services and policies.
- Conduct focus groups, interviews, or surveys to gather information about community attitudes and perceptions related to hazardous materials. Information will inform and support the development of realistic, customer-centered plans and strategies.
- Provide frequent written and verbal reporting and analysis on program objectives, progress, accomplishments, adjustments, and recommendations.
- Manage request for proposal (RFP) process to ensure transparent communication and accountability for project goals and vendor choices.
- Provide guidance and technical assistance to community-based organizations to develop, implement, and monitor scopes of work, milestones, and deliverables and support successful service delivery.
- Work with King County Procurement and Contract Specialists to ensure compliance with applicable policies and procedures.

- This position requires the ability to perform work duties both indoors in an office environment and in the field in a variety physical and weather conditions that may include walking uneven terrain, working around heavy machinery, strong odors, dust, animals, and various types of wastes.
- Exposure to individuals from the public who are upset, angry, agitated, and sometimes hostile, requiring the use of conflict management and de-escalation skills.
- This position may require strength enough to lift, push, or pull field equipment weighing between 20-40 pounds.
- This position may require the incumbent to occasionally access or travel by ferry or boat.
- Experience in education, communication, public health, or community engagement.
- Knowledge of equity and social justice principles and practices and an understanding of the effects of place, race, policy and systems-based inequities on marginalized communities and populations.
- Skill in leadership and team development.
- Ability to organize local communities and other partners for policy change.
- Demonstrated experience building trusting relationships with culturally specific and community-based groups, volunteer boards, service providers, and co-workers.
- Demonstrated experience facilitating community-led processes to identify priorities and address public health issues.
- Demonstrated skill with project management tools to develop/manage contracts, meet fiscal monitoring requirements, organize, and prioritize work quickly in response to changing needs, and work efficiently under deadlines.
- Three (3) years’ experience in public health education.
- Master’s degree in public health education, public administration, education, communication, social work or a related combination of work experience and education.
- Expertise in developing and delivering communications materials to BIPOC, immigrant, refugee, low income, and communities with limited English proficiency.

The Environmental Health Services Division is looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Educator Consultant who can listen, build trust, skillfully communicate, and connect with people from different backgrounds. The incumbent will join a team of three Educators Consultants working on similar projects, coordinated by a Public Health Planner.
This person is a key project manager, responsible for 1) building relationships with communities, 2) assessing needs, and planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating education and communication strategies, and 3) managing grants to communities.
The incumbent will need to be an independent self-starter who can also create collaboration with environmental and social scientists, health investigators, communications specialists, and policy staff to develop and implement strategies to reduce exposures to hazardous chemicals in the residential setting throughout King County. They will be responsible for ensuring use of culturally appropriate and evidence-based strategies to ensure services are equitable, relevant, and successful.
The work requires a strong ability to build partnership and to support diverse in-language and in-culture services and approaches, focusing on communities and individuals who are disproportionately impacted by exposures to hazardous household and consumer products, particularly refugee, immigrant, low-income, and Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities in King County.

Work Schedule
The work schedule for this position will be Monday through Friday, full-time at 40 hours per week (1.0 FTE). This position is FLSA exempt (salaried). Approximately 10 weekends per year for education events, and some evening work as needed for education events and collaborating with community partners. The position is hybrid, but primarily telecommute. Supplied office space at the reporting site is available.
Work Location
The primary work location is at the Chinook Building located at 401 Fifth Ave. Seattle, WA 98104.
Teleworking
Some of the work associated with this position will be performed through teleworking, and will report to office location and to meetings as needed. Travel to other work locations may be necessary. Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. To support employees during this time King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely.
