      We are looking for someone who is:
      • Able to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
      • Able to walk five-eight miles daily while pushing a 115-450 lb. cart, work outdoors in all weather conditions, and can lift 50-pound bags.
      • Able to professionally interact with a diverse community and respond to questions and complaints from the general public.
      • Familiar with and has knowledge of counting and cashiering procedures.
      • Reliable and has attention to detail.

      What you will typically be responsible for:
      • Collecting coins from parking meters by using collection wagons/carts.
      • Walking 5-8 miles a day while pushing wagons weighing 115-450 lbs.
      • Reporting meter theft and vandalism
      • Loading, unloading, counting, sorting, weighing, ang bagging coins collected from parking meters.
      • Reporting broken meters to parking meter repair and 311.
      • Problem-solving and other related duties as assigned.
      • Carrying heavy bags of coins to the vault.

      A few challenges you might face in this job:
      • Collect coins from parking meters by pushing heavy and manual collection carts, and perform minor repairs to coin counting machines and collection carts.
      • Lift and push heavy coin bags/wagons or carts and walk long distances.
      • Count, sort, bag, and weigh coins collected from parking meters, and clean money prior to bagging coins.
      • Work outdoors in all weather conditions.

      Working for the City of Oakland The following qualifications are guidelines, as the appointing authority has broad discretion in filling positions in this classification.

      Any combination of education and experience that is equivalent to the following minimum qualifications is acceptable.
      Education:
      Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
      Experience:
      One year work experience that would demonstrate the ability to collect and count money.

      • Retirement – CalPERS (California Public Employees’ Retirement System) with a pension formula of 2.5% @ 55 (for Classic CalPERS members) and 2% @ 62 for new CalPERS members. Classic Employees contribute 8% of pre-tax wages. The City of Oakland does not participate in Social Security

      • Health – The City of Oakland pays for the cost of employee and eligible dependent coverage at the Kaiser rate. Other plans include Anthem, Blue Shield, United Health Care and other HMO and PPO plans

      • Dental – The City of Oakland pays for Delta Dental full premium for employees and eligible dependents

      • Vision – The City of Oakland pays for VSP full premium for employees and eligible dependents

      • Sick leave – Employees accrue 12 days per year

      • Deferred Compensation – 457(b) pre-tax plan

      • Other benefits include a Flexible Spending Account, Wellness Program, Employee Assistance Program, Life Insurance, Tuition Reimbursement, Employee Training, & Telecommuting.



      The Recruitment Process:

      This is an at-will position, exempt from the provisions of the City of Oakland Civil Service Rules, per Charter Section 902.
