Job Description
- Req#: 760
- Regularly travels to Elder homes to pick-up household trash. May assist with bagging garbage or taking trash bins to the curb for city pick-up.
- Transports and disposes of garbage in a safe, effective, and environmentally friendly manner, at an approved dump site.
- Ensuring recyclables such as glass, paper, and plastic are properly separated from other types of garbage for effective recycling.
- Clearing debris from roadways within the reservation boundaries to ensure a safe and clean environment.
- Maintaining the garbage-disposal truck by performing routine maintenance, such as checking tire pressure, topping off fluids, and inspecting mechanical parts for unusual wear and tear.
- Works as a member of the Clean our Rez maintenance crew when not picking up trash. Assists Supervisor with performing general maintenance duties, including: yard work, trash clean-up, using power and motorized equipment, etc.
- May provide service at Tribal transfer station/dump site.
- Provides customer service to Elders and community members. Answers questions and assists in resolving issues. Reports concerns to supervisor.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Requires the ability to concentrate and consistently produce accurate work.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; and risk of electrical shock.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Requires occasional travel using employee’s own transportation.

Position Summary:
Under the general direction of the supervisor, position is responsible for performing maintenance and trash pick-up duties.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma/GED and 6 months of outdoor maintenance/grounds keeping experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read, write, communicate, and interpret information professionally and accurately in the English language.
Must demonstrate the ability to interact tactfully and positively with Tribal members.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in basic units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in writing or orally. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Licenses and/or Certificates
Must have and maintain a valid and unrestricted Driver’s License and proof of auto insurance required. Driver’s License must not contain any restrictions that would otherwise prevent an employee from operating a GSA vehicle and complying with the Tribe’s Vehicle Use Policy.

Must be a Puyallup Tribal Member.
Must be able to acceptably pass a background check prior to and periodically throughout employment.
