- Maintaining a safe work practices and a safe working environment by ensuring that legal requirements and group working standards and policies related to electrical, electrical, control and instrumentation engineering are implemented and followed on the Operations and Projects
- Conducting equipment failure analysis, root cause analysis, best practice and repair strategies to ensure optimal use and quality of electrical, control and instrumentation services as well as the reporting thereof on a regular basis
- Managing and leading a team of experienced electrical, control and instrumentation personnel
- Ensuring a safe installation operation and maintenance of all electrical and instrumentation equipment in your area of responsibility
- Ensuring that programmable logic control (PLC) and supervisory systems are programmed and maintained to Thungela specifications
- Ensuring that daily, weekly, and monthly equipment planned maintenance schedules are in place and complied with
- Overseeing the installation and commissioning of equipment associated with the electrical, control and instrumentation department to ensure the safe operation and its effectiveness
- Supervising the refurbishment and repair work completed during breakdowns and planned maintenance
- System trouble shooting and hardware problem resolution ensure that all equipment faults are correctly diagnosed and analysed
- Planning and implementation of projects and continuous improvements
- National Technical Diploma N6/ T3 /S4 - Electrical/ Electronic Engineering
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience as Senior technician / Technician/ General Engineering Supervisor/ Superintendent within the coal mining industry
- Completion of a Medium Voltage or operating regulations for high voltage systems course
- An extensive in-depth knowledge electrical distribution networks and equipment
- An extensive practical and working knowledge of various industrial communication and control system networks
- An in-depth knowledge of applicable SCADA systems
- Advanced computer literacy: MS Office, SCADA and PLC software
- An in-depth knowledge of technical engineering aspects such as outside equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and South Africa Bureau of Standards (SABS)
- A good working knowledge and understanding of machinery and equipment used in the Mining Industry
- Valid Driver’s Licence
- Valid Certificate of Fitness
- Problem Solving and Troubleshooting Skills
- Project Management Skills
- Knowledge of Mine Planning Principles

Job Description
As the Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Superintendent, you will be responsible to ensure that all systems are maintained to ensure safe operation and optimised so that the capacity to the production is maximised, and targets are met. This will include overseeing the maintenance and repair of all electrical equipment and machines, control and instrumentation equipment, and process control networks to ensure availability for the operations according to set target as well as conducting regular inspections on equipment.
