      About the Role:


      Support the design, development, and deployment of engineering solutions under guidance, ensuring compliance with operational, quality, safety, and regulatory standards.

      Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by assisting in optimizing equipment, processes, and systems to enhance performance and reliability.

      Collaborate across functions to support project delivery and gain hands-on experience in technical and operational problem-solving.


      Key Responsibilities may include:

      • Support across the end to end lifecycle of engineering projects, including design, testing, and commissioning, ensuring compliance with established standards and objectives.
      • Follow global safety standards (e.g., ISO, OSHA) and assist in conducting risk assessments to ensure compliance during project activities.
      • Identify and suggest opportunities for process optimization and reliability improvements, focusing on assigned tasks or specific elements of systems.
      • Provide hands-on troubleshooting and maintenance of systems, addressing performance issues with guidance from senior engineers.
      • Work alongside Operations, IT, and Safety teams to align on project goals and contribute to addressing technical challenges.
      • Assist in monitoring supplier and contractor activities, ensuring adherence to specifications and timelines under supervision.
      • Actively engage in skill development opportunities to further develop your capabilities in engineering best practices, tools, and systems.

      Position Purpose:

      The primary responsibilities of the Electrical Controls Engineer are to support complex Automation solutions allowing CHEP to reach goals of a touchless plant. One key assignment will be implementation of PLC programming for Factory Management Systems (FMS) and cybersecurity compliance.

      Responsibilities

      • Perform machine controls programming and troubleshooting of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Human Machine Interface (HMI), and industrial communications networks including cybersecurity.
      • Assist in determining standards in code for PLC and HMI programs
      • Advance the control systems organization, communicate complex technical issues to a varied audience, and consult as a subject matter expert
      • Responsible to ensure use of the electrical and programming standards for panels and site installations.
      • Support the designs and development of industrial controls for complex material handling systems considering human/equipment interactions
      • Ensure that all necessary electrical safe work practices are adhered to by both CHEP and contract personnel
      • Ability to communicate to vendors and make decisions using industry standard knowledge (controls theory, mechanical/electrical systems, and passive infrastructure)
      • Work with FMS, Cybersecurity, Operations and Engineering to improve and standardize visualization, data collection, cybersecurity and communications standards with (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA).
      • Conduct acceptance testing in coordination with operations and key stakeholders
      • Ensure plant PLCs are in accordance with Global security protocol and programming standards
      • Managing and controlling supplier remote access of the CHEP PLCs.

      Qualifications:

      Essential Qualifications

      • Minimum Trade test or National Diploma in Electrical/ Electronic /Mechatronics Engineering
      • Proficient with Rockwell devices and Programming
      • Familiar with OSHA regulations and standards
      • Extremely detail oriented individual

      Desirable Qualifications

      • Familiarity with RFID, Vision, and Scanner technologies
      • Project Management basics
      • Familiar with basic safety protocols in a manufacturing environment

      Experience:

      What experience will be valued? Consider:

      • At least 2-5 years' industry experience in Electrical/Control systems in a relay/PLC based controls.
      • Design, development, implementation in a fast-paced industrial, logistics, production manufacturing environment
      • Operations experience, supporting production
      • Experience leading or coordinating projects
      • Experience with RFID, Vision, and Scanners
      • Experience with networked devices using EtherNet or DeviceNet
      • Experience with electrical theory, robotics, controls components, automated equipment
      • Lean Manufacturing
      • Experience in programming with Rockwell Studio 5000 and older software (RXLogix 5000)
      • Basic experience in other PLC devices eg Siemens

      Skills and Knowledge

      • Familiar with industrial electrical wiring, process piping, and machine guarding principles
      • Allen-Bradley, Rockwell Automation PLC, Drives, and control systems
      • Material handling stacking and conveyor & robotic systems, specifically Yaskawa, a plus
      • Familiar with networking principles and equipment
      • Familiarity with managed switches and administrative controls
      • Familiar with project management methods and tools such as MS Project
      • Working knowledge of the use of AutoCAD, SolidWorks is a plus
      • Cybersecurity regulations like GDPR and HIPAA
