      Spang Engineered Solutions, a division of Spang & Company, has an opening for an Electrical Design Engineer – Product Development at its Pittsburgh, PA office. This position will be responsible for preparing designs for inductors and other magnetic devices for customers and potential customers.

      Spang Engineered Solutions designs and manufactures custom inductive components for an array of industries. Our manufacturing locations include Pittsburgh, PA, Phoenix, AZ, McKinney, TX, in the U.S.A., and Xiamen, China.

      Primary responsibilities will include:

      • Respond quickly to customer inquiries for design support. Discern the most appropriate approach, which may be a full design, a preliminary design, follow-up questions, or divert elsewhere.
      • Package design proposals with the objective of eliciting positive customer reactions.
      • Maintain and improve inductor design software.
      • Develop new design software as needed, including research of available tools.
      • Support production teams in China and US by answering questions and anticipating questions.
      • Learn and use SES electrical test equipment.
      • Support sourcing of materials and components with purchasing and US/China production teams.
      • New Product Transfer - Work with engineering and manufacturing personnel to smoothly transfer new products to the factory floor. Develop procedures, checklists, and test specifications for manufacturing personnel to follow. Train manufacturing personnel on new product test procedures.
      • Up to 25% travel required to SES manufacturing locations or meetings with potential customers.

      Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics. Candidates should have experience in analog design. Experience with power design and/or testing and transformer/inductor design is desirable. Background in any of the following areas is preferred: Power Distribution Systems, Control Systems, Failure Analysis, Electrical Product Design, or NEC.
