      Overview / Responsibilities

      Wood is currently seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our team in Houston, TX. This is contract position with opportunities for extension and working with a Wood client office.

      The ideal candidate should be able to apply extensive and comprehensive knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practices to the organization’s products and services. Plans, schedules and assigns/supervises or conducts broad and/or technically complex engineering assignments requiring judgment, independent evaluation, selection and significant adaptation and deviation from standard techniques and procedures. Consults with Lead Engineer and other experts concerning unusual problems and develops, plans, evaluates and recommends solutions for difficult problems. Assignments are broadly defined. Work is performed and decisions are made independently. Serves as a technical expert in meetings with customers and vendors. Travels to project meetings and job sites as necessary. Routinely suggests, justifies and implements improvements and creative solutions for problems. Makes decisions independently. Applies advanced techniques and methods as required. Supervision is both technical and administrative.

      Key Responsibilities

      • Ideal candidate will have first-hand experience with conversion of gas driven compression to electric motor drives packages, electric drilling programs, and conversion of rigs to utility power
      • Have familiarity / experience with both leased and owned compression packages and working with suppliers to optimize and / or troubleshoot I&E related issues (e.g. controls, VFD, motor)
      • Proficient with conducting root cause failure analyses of general electrical failures and resolving critical power quality (harmonics) issues at both central facilities and at well sites
      • Familiarity with and capable of supporting design, installation, and maintenance of small-scale remote solar power systems for low-power facilities
      • Capable of maintaining ETAP power system models for assets/facilities/fields
      • Provide Electrical Engineering support in Electrical Area Classification, Arc Flash, Grounding, and power distribution/management
      • Providing instrumentation & electrical engineering support to the L48 Capital Projects team. This includes providing coordination between Project Engineers, contract engineering firms, Production Operations, HSE, Supply Chain, and Commissioning teams.
      • Assisting with the development and maintenance of technical specifications and standards. Serve as a technical resource for the interpretation and implementation of relevant corporate engineering and industry standards.
      • Providing direction to third-party engineering contractors on the creation of piping and instrumentation diagrams, plot plans, 3D models, cause and effect tables, one line diagrams, cable schedules, instrument indices, and other standard instrumentation/controls and electrical engineering deliverables.
      • Provide Instrument & Electrical technical specification of field, DCS, Safety System, vendor package control system, interfaces, trouble shooting, network security, and SIL Verification
      • Supporting consistent implementation of fit-for-purpose engineering and construction standards in the design, construction, and operation of well site facilities, pipelines, and central facilities.
      • Leading efforts to ensure modifications, designs, and construction standards are fully understood and effectively managed throughout the organization using the corporate management of change process.
      • Providing support for, and participating in the MOC process, performing risk assessments and/or PHA studies,, etc. as required, to comply with the HSE Management System.
      • Aiding in the development of the engineering and construction scopes of the work
      • Develops, plans, evaluates and recommends solutions for difficult problems
      • May serve as the lead electrical engineer on a project; planning, managing and coordinating the electrical engineering activities on large and/or technically complex portion of a project and/or serve in an individual contributor role as the electrical expert completing broadly defined and/or technically complex engineering assignments
      • Responsible for progress reports
      • Manages the activities of task assigned personnel
      • Coordinates the activities of a team of engineers assigned to a project and provides technical supervision of the day-to-day activities of task assigned (non-project-dedicated) personnel
      • Supervises and/or prepares proposals, contract design drawings and calculations, contract information (CI) sheets, BEDD sheets, specifications and other engineering documentation using standards and/or new methods as required
      • Prepares and issues contract information (CI) sheets and/or BEDD sheets based on calculations and organization standards
      • Reviews drawings, calculations, CI/BEDD sheets, specifications, studies and other engineering documentation for compliance with contract requirements, good engineering practices, codes, and standards
      • Supervises a small to medium size group of technical personnel
      • Provides work assignments to personnel based on CI/BEDD sheets and schedule requirements
      • Approves and issues drawings, CI/BEDD sheets and other engineering documents
      • Coordinates work of subordinates with other disciplines and organizational project management team
      • Supervise the preparation or prepares technical specifications for purchased equipment
      • Coordinates and interfaces with equipment suppliers
      • Prepares technical evaluations of supplier’s proposals
      • Gives effective presentations to customers, suppliers and internally within the organization
      • Works with and communicates with project management team
      • Serves as a technical expert
      • Ensures the technical quality of work performed by subordinates based upon organizational standards, codes and general knowledge of engineering principles and projects
      • Performs or reviews engineering and design tasks requiring operation of available computer assisted software and/or equipment that increments work productivity and accuracy
      • Investigate client and/or project management grievances at assigned project to determine facts and recommends a solution
      • Consults with supervisor and other experts concerning unusual problems and develops and applies advanced techniques and methods, as required
      • May serve as an individual contributor or may plan, assign, coordinate, and review work of other engineers depending on the scope of a particular assignment
      • May develop and implement improved designs, work methods, practices and procedures
      • Ensures that all work on assigned projects is timely, accurate and high quality
      • Performs other related duties as assigned by management

      Skills / Qualifications

      Basic/Required:

      • Legally authorized to work in the United States
      • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering
      • 10+ years of engineering experience in the Oil & Gas Industry
      • Ability to manage multiple projects
      • Excellent teamwork and communication skills. Ability to transmit information so it is received and understood in the way it was intended
      • Valid driver's license
      • Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% of the time to both field locations and other office locations

      Preferred:

      • 15+ years of direct experience in upstream oil and gas facility design, construction/installation, operation, and optimization of production facilities.
      • Experience with Substation design/maintenance as well as distribution planning/construction.
      • Advanced knowledge of technical standards (API, NEC, ISA 84, ISA 99, etc.)
      • Experience in technical areas related to Instrumentation/Controls and electrical fields.
      • Experience with directing engineering contractors
      • Advanced understanding of the project process and interactive skills necessary to coordinate a team of technical professionals and field personnel
      • Good understanding of company Safety and Environmental policies and processes
