The City of Coronado is accepting applications for Electrician
The Department: The mission of the Public Services and Engineering Department is to maintain the City's physical infrastructure and provide the highest level of cost-effective maintenance for the City's beaches, facilities, parks, sanitary sewer and storm drain systems, and rights of way, while protecting the public's health and safety. The Department of Public Services and Engineering is responsible for maintaining the City's physical infrastructure, including planning, design, construction, and repair of the City's buildings, parks, streets, and utility systems.
The Wastewater-Storm Water Division is responsible for the maintenance and operating control systems of 18 varying sized pump and lift stations, 10 nuisance flow diverter stations, 45 miles of sewer, and 8 miles of storm collection systems. The Electrician position is assigned to the Utilities Division - Wastewater and Storm Water and provides general support to the Facilities Division performing building electrical maintenance, coordination, and oversight of projects.
The ideal candidate will possess strong customer service and interpersonal skills to work efficiently and effectively with all City Departments, employees, and contractors. The successful candidate will have high ethical and professional standards, strong organizational and time management skills, in addition to excellent verbal and written communication. They will possess journey level experience, including electrical instrumentation control systems and the ability to effectively prioritize, work independently, and consistently provide quality work. Possession of a General Electrician Certification issued by the State of California is strongly preferred at the time of employment.
The Electrician position requires participation in rotational Standby/On-Call shifts which can involve working at nights, on weekends, and holidays during rain events. Candidates will need to have flexibility to perform on-call duties as assigned.
Experience: At least four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience in the installation, maintenance, repair, and operation of high voltage electrical and electronic systems, including two years at the journey level.

Examination Process:
Application Review Phase: A completed City of Coronado employment application and resume must be received by the Human Resources Division. Applications will be reviewed based on relevant education, training, and experience. Certificates must be attached to the application.
Examination Process: Applicants considered most qualified after the application review process will be invited to participate in an oral panel interview (100%). Additionally, applicants may be requested to undertake one or more of the following exercises – written assessment, practical, or presentation – as part of the evaluation process.
Final Interview: The top candidates will be invited to a department interview with the Wastewater/Storm Water Supervisor and Director of Public Services and Engineering.
Candidate Selected: The final candidate will be issued a conditional offer, subject to the successful completion of a background check and medical examination including a drug screen.
Additional Information: All candidates who successfully obtain 70% or above in each phase of the exam process will be placed on an eligibility list.
