Job Description

- Troubleshoots electrical problems in resident units, offices and buildings on John Knox Village campus.
- Installs, maintains and repairs interior and exterior electrical systems including lighting systems, power appliances and electrical devices, machinery motors, motor controls and equipment.
- Observes, maintains and certifies all electrical and alarm systems in the Village.
- Maintains records and documents on systems and recommends potential upgrades.
- Installs, repairs, troubleshoots, programs, enters and maintains records for residential security/fire alarm system. Evaluates and recommends cost- and energy-saving equipment and solutions.
- Assists with snow removal as needed.
- Adheres to all safety regulations and requirements.
- Handles stress well and gets along with others within the workplace and with customers outside the department.
- Maintains acceptable standards of workplace conduct.
- This position requires the level of education typically acquired by a course of study leading to a high school diploma or GED and a minimum of two years electrical trade school.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance.
- Must have or be able to obtain a Missouri Class E driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
- A minimum of one year of electrical installation and maintenance experience.
- Fire alarm installation and maintenance experience preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, handbooks and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Must be able to interpret blue prints, construction documents, schematics and wiring diagrams.
- The associate is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions including extreme cold temperatures typically below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour or extreme heat temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour.
- The associate is subject to sufficient noise to need to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level.
- The associate is subject to vibration of the extremities or whole body.
- The associate is subject to hazards such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
- The associate is subject to atmospheric conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: Fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation.
- The associate is subject to air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.
- The associate is required to wear a respirator when performing certain tasks.
- The associate frequently is in close quarters and other areas which could cause claustrophobia.
- The associate is required to function in narrow aisles or passageways.
- The associate may be exposed to infectious diseases and is required to function around individuals with challenged mental capacities.
- All associates may be called upon to assist other departments in a declared emergency situation.
- Heavy Work – Exerting up to 100 lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs of force frequently, and/or up to 20lbs of force constantly to move objects.
- The associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines; using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.
- Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
- Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces.
- May need to stoop/bend, kneel, crawl, reach, stand for sustained periods of time and walk long distances.
- May need to push, pull, lift with regular or repetitive motion. May need to pick up, pinch, type with fingers, grasp with fingers and palm.
- May need to feel attributes of an object such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touch with fingertips.
- Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
- Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, making discriminations in sound.
- Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

JOB SUMMARY
Provides electrical services for a wide variety of electrical equipment and fixtures, including construction and installation of new systems and upgrades to existing systems. Maintains all electrical, security and fire alarm systems in the Village. Ensures that outside contractors are meeting JKV standard requirements. Supportive of the Village’s mission, values, and service/hospitality (PRIDE) expectations. Completes training as required by policy.
