      The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is excited to offer a career growth opportunity to a motivated and talented individual for an Electrician II position in the Northeast Region, Ma.

      The Electrician II is responsible for all operations within a wide variety of electrical functions at the Facility. As a member of the Maintenance/ Core Services Department, the incumbent will ensure that various types of electrical systems and equipment are tested, repaired, installed, and maintained in accordance with all applicable codes, laws and regulations.

      Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):

      • Ensure the safe and adequate functioning and testing of all electrical fire alarms systems, all generator systems, and all associated electrical equipment.
      • General monitoring, maintenance and repair for all operations associated with the fire alarm system.
      • Performs all electrical tasks per MA State Code.
      • Maintain communication with local life safety officers to assure complete regulatory, code and legal compliance.
      • Tests, troubleshoots, repairs, installs, maintains, and operates various types of electrical systems in a safe and efficient manner.
      • Maintain an adequate inventory of equipment and materials.
      • Properly documents all testing results for life safety.
      • Performs other duties as assigned.
      • Must be able to work on electrical systems of 6 volt to 600 volt.

      Preferred Qualifications at hire:

      • Knowledge of state and local electrical codes.
      • Knowledge of the principles and theory of electricity.
      • Knowledge of the types and uses of small hand tools used in electrical practice such as pliers, screwdrivers, etc.
      • Knowledge of the types and uses of equipment including testing equipment used in electrical work.
      • Knowledge of safety practices and precautions observed in the electrical trade.
      • Knowledge of inspection techniques used in the electrical trade.
      • Skill in the use of precision measuring equipment, gauges and instrumentation used in electrical work.
      • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
      • Ability to understand, explain and apply the laws, rules and regulations governing assigned unit activities.
      • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
      • Ability to interpret and apply laws, rules and regulations concerning electrical practice.
      • Ability to write clearly and concisely.
      • Ability to maintain accurate records.
      • Ability to read and interpret documents such as electrical plans, schematics, drawings, etc.
      • Ability to make decisions and act quickly in emergency situations.
      • Ability to install, maintain and repair electrical wiring systems and equipment.
      • Ability to detect and locate causes of electrical failure or breakdown of equipment.
      • Knowledge of the methods and techniques of testing fire alarm systems.
      • Knowledge of the procedures and methods followed in the installation of fire alarm systems.

      Schedule Information:

      Full-time 40 Hours
      Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m.-3:30p.m.
      Days off: Saturday and Sunday


      Flexibility required to meet the needs of the department.

      Minimum Entrance Requirements:

      Applicant must have at least one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience as a licensed journeyman or master electrician.

      Special Requirements: Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Journeyman or Master Electrician's License issued by the State Examiners of Electricians.*

      *NOTE: License requirement regarding the Department of Public Works: Neither general street lighting nor traffic light work performed by the Department of Public Works or its agents or employees on public ways is subject to the licensing requirements of M.G.L. Chap. 141. 1976 - 1977 Op AG, No. 26. Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
