      GENERAL SUMMARY

      The Maintenance Mechanic performs skilled mechanical and utilities maintenance duties for the Airport Authority in the maintenance and repair of electrical and utility systems and equipment.

      ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

      • Checks operation, performs preventative maintenance, and assists with repairs for:
        • Emergency power generators, automatic transfer switches, generator paralleling switchgear and distribution system
        • Electrical switchgear, transformers, buss duct, motor control centers, and variable frequency drives
      • Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains:
        • 3 Phase; 4,160 volts, 480/277 volt and 208/120 electrical systems.
        • A variety of pumps, from 1 hp to 100 hp throughout the airport
        • All lighting throughout RDUAA campus. Including fluorescent and HID using ladders and aerial lifts
        • Checks operation. performs preventive maintenance, and repairs to automatic sliding door systems and UPS systems
      • Performs additional related work as required

        HIRING RANGE:

        • $22.02 - $32.92

        QUALIFICATIONS

        Education:

        Required:

        • High School diploma or equivalent

        Preferred:

        • Associate Degree or Apprentice Program

        Experience:

        Required:

        • 2 years of experience in the electrical trade

        Preferred:

        • 4 years of experience in the electrical trade

        Licenses or Certifications:

        Required:

        • Valid NC Driver’s License
        • CDL class B License (or ability to obtain within 9 months)

        Preferred:

        • NC Registered Journeyman's Certificate

        COMPETENCIES FOR SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE OF JOB DUTIES

        Knowledge of:

        • The operation of various types of aerial lifts including work at heights up to 60 feet
        • Working knowledge and experience of mechanical and utilities systems
        • Safety rules and regulations required in the electrical trade
        • Hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, and industrial equipment
        • Principles and practices of basic bookkeeping
        • Modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment used to document work, inventory, and work orders

        Skill in:

        • Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships
        • Performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature
        • English grammar, spelling, punctuation
        • Performing basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, and ratios

        Ability to:

        • Handle difficult situations with tact and diplomacy
        • Communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively
        • Move from one job to another as needed
        • Accurately identify color coded cables and wires, in variable lighting conditions
        • Read schematics, blueprints, and other technical documents
        • Work on 480, 277 and 240 volt systems
        • Meet schedules and deadlines of work
        • Understand and carry out oral and written directions
        • Accurately organize and maintain paper documents and electronic files
        • Maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries
