      Empatica

Empatica is a full-stack digital healthcare company and a pioneer in digital biomarker development and continuous patient monitoring driven by AI. Our platform consists of medical-grade smartwatches, software, and physiological and behavioral digital biomarkers. Together they enable the continuous remote monitoring of human health across a range of conditions, through clinical-quality digital measurements.

If you are looking to join a fast-paced growth environment and do meaningful work that can make a true impact in the world, then keep reading.

      About the role

“Building hardware is tough” is a sentence you are probably familiar with if you know what we are talking about. Creating medical-grade wearable devices is so complex that only a few companies have attempted it, and an even smaller percentage of them have succeeded; Empatica is proudly among the latter ones. If you are up to face such a challenge, Empatica is the right place for you!

      What you'll do:

      • Own the electronics architecture of our products, selecting components and sensor configurations and iterating from early prototypes to production‑ready PCBs.
      • Perform PCB layout with a focus on compactness, manufacturability, and optimal performance, and validate your designs through simulation, bring‑up, and hands‑on debugging to meet technical and regulatory requirements.
      • Leverage our in‑house electronics lab to explore and test ideas, pushing boundaries to deliver compact, robust, and innovative solutions.
      • Collaborate daily with our Mechanical Engineers to ensure PCBs fit seamlessly within tight enclosures and with Firmware Engineers to guarantee flawless sensor and communication interface integration.
      • Drive the transition from prototype to production by working with manufacturing partners for DFM compliance, preparing technical documentation, coordinating fabrication and assembly, and leading prototype builds to test, debug, and qualify hardware.
      • Continuously improve production yield and investigate field issues by performing root‑cause analyses on anomalies or failures and implementing corrective actions to enhance product quality and reliability.

      Some important details:

      • Empatica operates in an international environment with offices in Europe, the US, and Korea. All work is conducted in English.
      • We are operating a hybrid model where our employees choose whether to work from home or come to the office, however, please note that this position is not fully remote, and your in-office presence will be required on frequent occasions.

As the ideal candidate for this position, you have:

      • Genuine interest, passion, and motivation for Empatica’s mission.
      • A M.Sc. in Electronics Engineering - or equivalent.
      • Proven hands-on experience in the development of Schematics and Layout for electronics devices (e.g. OrCAD Capture and Altium Designer are preferred).
      • Familiarity with main building-blocks used in embedded systems (e.g. MCUs, PMICs, BLE radio, sensors, battery management, ...).
      • Familiarity with lab instrumentation (e.g. oscilloscope, logic analyser, power supplies, data logger, ...).
      • Good lab skills (i.e. soldering, reworking, devices assembling/disassembling, ...).
      • Experience with mass-scale PCB production and assembly (i.e. understanding of industry-standard rules for PCB manufacturing, knowledge of SMT processes and best practices, ...).
      • Experience with FW development for MCUs (ARM Cortex-M preferred).
      • Resilience, a get-things-done attitude, and an innate desire to do great work.
