      About the Position: The Walter Reed Army Institute of Research aims to conduct biomedical research that is responsive to Department of Defense and US Army requirements and delivers lifesaving products including knowledge, technology and medical material that sustain the combat effectiveness of the Warfighter.

      Duties


      • Maintain and repair electronic equipment and systems used in medical research laboratories.
      • Apply techniques of Calibration and Repair Support of medical devices and medical devices systems outlined in established regulation and guidance.
      • Complete preventative maintenance, repair, modify, and operate a variety of equipment, systems, components, and devices used in medical research laboratories.
      • Physically check the condition of a variety of equipment and systems such as those providing electrical, air-conditioning, refrigeration, steam, biohazard containment filtering, mask air supply system, etc.

      Requirements


      • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
      • This position requires you to obtain and maintain eligibility for a Secret security clearance.
      • This position is subject to two-year probationary period unless you have previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
      • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
      • This position requires pre-employment financial disclosure and annually thereafter.
      • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
      • Requires travel less than 25% to CONUS and OCONUS sites to provide training and conduct staff assistance visits on management of agreements and management control plans.

      The Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) is participating in an alternative personnel system known as the Personnel Demonstration Project (PDP). The DE-03 pay-band is equivalent to the GS-09 step 1 to GS-11 step 10 level. In keeping with the Demonstration pay fixing policies, employees earning a salary that falls within this pay-band equivalent, may not receive an immediate pay increase (promotion) if appointed to this position. Future pay increases within the pay-band will be accomplished through the pay for performance management system.

      In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.

      Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) Working on a wide variety of electronic equipment and a variety of specialized laboratory and medical equipment used for research such as electrical, air-conditioning, refrigeration, steam, biohazard containment filtering, and/or mask air supply system; (2) Utilizing and maintaining test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE) and repair medical devises/medical device systems used in research laboratories; (3) Developing, implementing, and performing preventive maintenance on sterilization and instrument washing equipment, inspection of research laboratories, facilities, equipment, and/or systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (DE-02/GS-8).
