  This position is located in the Maintenance and Operations section of the Engineering Service at VA Western Colorado HealthCare System - Grand Junction VA Medical Center in Grand Junction, CO.

  The Electronics Technician is responsible for providing comprehensive technical support of nurse call system, guest Wi-Fi, video monitoring, TVs, panic alarms, temperature monitoring systems, physical security access control systems, distributed antenna systems, and associated devices that may consist of computers and network components. This support includes maintenance, preventive maintenance, calibration, inspection, installation, evaluation, and repairs. Major duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:

  Minimum Requirement: The following are minimum requirements for appointment as an Electronics Technician in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), which all applicants must met.
  • Specialized Experience (GS-11): You must have one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (i.e., GS-10). Qualifying examples of specialized experience include: (1) Work as a technician, instructor, inspector, or mechanic (civilian or military) that showed progression in theoretical and practical knowledge of electronic theory, and of the characteristics, function, operation, and capabilities of a variety of types of electronic equipment. This experience must have included the use of schematic diagrams, a variety of test equipment, and the application of appropriate electronic formulas involved in such duties as testing, troubleshooting, modifying, designing, calibrating, installing, maintaining, repairing, constructing, developing, and instructing on electronic equipment, or similar functions; or (2) Experience in developing policies, standards, and procedures for maintenance, installation, or similar functions, provided the work clearly shows that the applicant applied a specialized knowledge of the theories and principles of a variety of electronic systems or equipment. OR,
  • Education (GS-11): Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education, in a course of study that directly reflects the job-related KSAs/competencies necessary (e.g., electrical engineering, electronics engineering, or electronics technology) to satisfy the minimum qualifications and perform the duties of the position. NOTE: One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended.   • Combination (GS-11): Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have a combination of specialized experience and education as described above. NOTE: Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level (i.e., 2 years of graduate education) can be combined with the appropriate level of experience to qualify for position at GS-11.   IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
  
  Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
  
  Physical Requirements: The work is a combination of sedentary and requiring physical effort and exertion such as e.g., walking, standing, carrying light items such as manuals or briefcases, or driving or traveling by motor vehicle. Long periods of standing, bending, and stooping is also required to observe and study work operations in project construction areas/sites, confined spaces, use of scaffolding multi-stories tall, mechanical equipment rooms, and other spaces that are noisy, dirty and close quarters, and lifting of light to moderate heavy items weighing less than 50 pounds.
