    • A valid Mississippi Educator License; a Master’s Degree is not required, but graduate work in
    • Minimum of 4 years of elementary teaching experience
    • Deep understanding of how elementary mathematical content in the MS CCRS-M builds across grade levels and grade bands, particularly K – Grade 2 and Grade 2 – Grade 4
    • Experience in planning and implementing flexible grouping strategies, differentiated instruction, purposeful formative assessment, and appropriate use of technology for K – 2
    • Ability to be a thoughtful listener and helpful partner – not a critic – when co-teaching or observing in classrooms
    • Ability to recognize when a topic is worth pursuing and when it is wiser to let it go for the moment (i.e., when building relationships > being right)
    • Ability to be wrong and to admit when you’re wrong; demonstrate willingness to graciously accept feedback and input from colleagues and to offer grace in return
    • Ability to engage in productive, professional discussions without being aggressive, dismissive, or judgmental of others’ pedagogical beliefs and experiences
    • Ability to engage in productive, professional discussions without being defensive, shutting down, or bearing a grudge because another person disagrees
    • Co-plan, co-teach, and/or model current research-based best practices for teaching mathematics with teachers and administrators (inside and outside the classroom)
    • Work with teachers during Tier 1 instruction to identify student misconceptions; work with teachers to implement strategies and classroom tasks to help address those misconceptions
    • Meet with teachers during PLCs/planning times to discuss math content and instruction; work with teachers to align textbook/curricular materials with CCRS-M expectations
    • Meet with students in individual & small group settings to strengthen their mathematical foundations
    • Self-monitor, multi-task, and deliver a variety of high-quality instructional resources in a timely manner, based on the needs and requests of students, teachers, and administrators
    • Participate actively in professional development opportunities (presenting and attending),
      as determined to be appropriate by district supervisors
    • Collaborate with fellow Math Team members to develop and refine district resources for math

      Job Title: Elementary Math Specialist
      Reports to: Math Curriculum Coordinator
      FLSA Status: Exempt


      The Madison County Math Team includes Math Specialists and Math Interventionists working together to help MCS students and teachers achieve long-term success in mathematics. Math Interventionists are assigned to one school in order to provide focused, consistent support for students in MTSS for mathematics. Math Specialists may be assigned to more than one school, where they collaborate closely with teachers, administrators, and other instructional specialists to directly impact the classroom environment. Note: Math Coaches and Math Interventionists are not administrative positions.

      Description of Requirements for Applicants:

      Early Childhood or Elementary Math Education is of interest.
