In response to mitigating the lasting effects of the covid disruption to students’ social development, Medford Public Schools is developing a course for all elementary students that will target age-appropriate life skills needed for success. This weekly course will combine social-emotional wellness and executive functioning skill enhancement for students K-5. Students will learn how to effectively manage the emotional, academic, and social demands of student life in elementary school.

Responsibilities include:

• Assist students in the development of executive functioning skills, including but not limited to: self-independence skills in a developmentally appropriate manner such as packing school bag, organizing materials, time management, task initiation, prioritization, study skills, test-taking skills, managing Gmail, google classroom, pear deck, etc.

• Implement Michigan Model curriculum

• Enhance and further social-emotional skill development in students according to the CASEL model (self-management, self-awareness, responsible decision-making, relationship skills, and social awareness)

• Other duties consistent with this role/responsibilities may be assigned by the school Principal, Director of School Counseling & Behavioral Health or Assistant Superintendent

Requirements:

• A Master’s Degree is preferred

• One of the following Massachusetts licenses are required:

  • Elementary General Education grades 1-6

  • School Social Worker/School Adjustment Counselor – Grades: All levels, licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts

  • Massachusetts Moderate Disabilities PK-8 license

  • Or related fields

• Must be familiar with the Casel model for SEL, Responsive Classroom, social thinking, Zones of Regulation, the Michigan Model, and executive functioning

Salary/Work Schedule/Benefits:

• Determined by the Teachers’ Contract with Medford School Committee
