Official Title: STEM/STEAM Teacher
Location: Scott Elementary School
Working Title: STEAM Specials Teacher
Salary Grade: According to Georgia Teacher Salary Schedule
Length of Work Year: 190
Reports To: Principal
Summary Description of Classification: Employee will be tasked with the integration of STEM/STEAM principles to support each grade level’s content curriculum. The employee will work with grade level teachers, fine arts instructors and instructional technology to design and deliver problem/project-based lessons integrating a minimum of two core content areas, fine arts, and technology.
Minimum Qualification Standards
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Knowledge of GSE curriculum, techniques for integrating curriculum, Thomasville City Schools BOE policies, and engineering design process. Understanding of the teaching/learning process. Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education. Ability to infuse technology into curriculum. Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school-based staff, students, parents and community. Respect for diversity in education. Excellent oral and written communication along with strong human relations skills. Additional responsibilities may include collaborating with other schools and/or community partners.
Education, Training and Experience:
• Must hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university and meet the GAPSC requirement for certification.
• Must have 3+ years of experience in an elementary classroom.
• Must be STEM certified or currently working in a STEM or STEAM focused school.
• Must have experience in designing and delivering problem/project-based learning in a STEM or STEAM elementary environment
Certificate, License, and Skill Requirements:
• Must be certified in an elementary STEM/STEAM Field. Computer Science Certification Preferred.
• Educational technology experience with elementary students is preferred, but not necessary
• Should be enthusiastic, flexible, and a team player
• Must work well in a highly collaborative, team-centered environment.
Physical Demands: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing). Ability to move around the classroom including stooping, bending, standing for extended periods and moving objects and materials. Crisis intervention may require participating in physical restraints.
Special Requirements: Required to attend school meetings, programs and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by administration. Must be able to work on a selected project to increase
their knowledge of how STEM engagement, maker spaces/innovation labs, as well as problem-based learning to increase student achievement and interest in STEM and STEAM related careers.

General Duties and Responsibilities:
Teacher Duties and Responsibilities
A. Follows professional practices consistent with school and system policies in working with students, student records, parents and colleagues.
1. Interacts in a professional manner with students and parents.
2. Is available to students and parents for conferences according to system policies.
3. Facilitates home-school communication by such means as holding conferences, telephoning and sending written communications.
4. Maintains confidentiality of students and student records.
5. Works cooperatively with school administrators, special support personnel, colleagues and parents.
B. Complies with school, system and state administrative regulations and board of education policies.
