- ELIGIBILITY COORDINATOR JOB SUMMARY
- An Eligibility Coordinator processes a large volume of patient accounts related to eligibility and authorization verification, pre-registration, registration, and point-of-service (POS) collections for outpatient (OP) and inpatient (IP) services. Work with other departments and outside entities to ensure maximum reimbursement for services and assists with authorization processing, as needed. Support Patient Access and meet goals set forth by the revenue cycle management. Cross-train in Eligibility to provide benefit summaries for coverage and POS collections to patients, as well as assist in financial arrangements or charity programs, to ensure a seamless patient experience. Provide excellent customer service that reflects the organization’s mission, vision, and standards.

- ELIGIBILITY COORDINATOR JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education and/or experience: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Some college preferred. Previous experience processing eligibility preferred. Previous experience with the following systems preferred: electronic medical record (EMR), electronic imaging and scheduling system, electronic payment system, and insurance and third-party websites for providers and/or eligibility and authorization verification processing.
Knowledge : Knowledge of medical and insurance terminology, contract reimbursement and methodology, governing agencies for healthcare (i.e. HIPAA, EMTALA, Medicare), and billing codes (CPT, HCPCS, and ICD . Knowledge of basic arithmetic and math aptitude required.
Skills : Advanced computer and data entry skills with accuracy required, including a minimum 40 wpm keyboarding. Problem solve to settle financial obligations and arrangements. Calculate and communicate patients’ financial obligations of services, including current and delinquent debt with the organization. Process patients’ financial payment transactions. Detail oriented with excellent oral and written communication skills, including active listening skills. Effectively communicate with and educate personnel, as needed. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills that reflect organizational standards.
Abilities : Read, write, speak and understand English. Research data and draw conclusions. Read and interpret provider orders and/or other documentation. Resolve concerns or contact appropriate personnel. Efficiently handle money and deposits. Self-motivated and able to handle fast-paced work environment with deadlines and changing job responsibilities. Multi-task and stay organized, while working with a team or independently, as required. Flex scheduling, as needed. Work directly with patients.
