      POSITION SUMMARY:

      Reporting to the Software Engineering Manager and under the guidance of a Lead Embedded Software Engineer, you will be responsible for the creation of DO-178 compliant embedded software/firmware, owning plans and documentation that adheres to DO-178 standards and guidelines, and contributing to the internal processes required for the development of safety-critical software projects.

      This position is based out of our Kelowna, BC or Ottawa, ON office.

      A typical day includes:

      • Ensure software development aligns with DO-178 standards and guidelines for safety-critical systems.
      • Own software development plans that adhere to DO-178 standards and support product compliance.
      • Create, maintain, and own DO-178 documentation to support software requirements traceability, design, implementation, and certification activities. (This includes understanding and ownership of HLR’s and LLR’s as well as shepherding all critical DO-178 SW artifacts through review to completion).
      • Support “Stages of Involvement” reviews and address findings by auditors.
      • Working with embedded software engineers, hardware engineers, and Transport Canada delegates to design, develop, implement, maintain, and verify avionics products.
      • Authoring/maintaining embedded software for SKYTRAC products, including adding new features and functionality.
      • Identifying and solving challenging technical and/or programmatic problems.
      • Estimating level of effort for tasks and adhering to schedules based on those estimates.
      • Reporting progress to leads and management, ensuring measurement against key project deliverables is considered.
      • Ensuring compliance with AS9100D development processes and standards.

        QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

        MUST HAVE:

        • Bachelor of Engineering or Computer Science degree
        • 6+ years relevant industry experience
        • Relevant Embedded Avionics Software Development experience (C)
        • Aerospace safety-critical software development experience
        • Strong understanding of DO-178 standards and processes, with practical experience in their application
        • Experience with documentation for RTCA/DO-178C DAL D & DAL C software
        • An honest communicator with strong interpersonal skills, who works effectively with team members
        • A tenacious self-starter, dependable, highly motivated, and cross-functional
        • Strong analytical skills with excellent problem-solving abilities
        • Someone who is excited to learn, to teach, and to help others

          NICE TO HAVE:

          • Experience with Bare Metal, RTOS, or Linux in an embedded environment
          • Experience with Docker, JIRA, Confluence, Git
          • Hardware Abstraction Layer knowledge in industry standard protocols (SPI, I2C, UART, USB, etc.), knowledge of wireless protocols (WAN, LAN, PAN, Mesh) such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or others; experience with Satcom (eg. Iridium); experience in additional aerospace or avionics standards; cybersecurity; networking standards; familiarity with Dev Ops

              The salary range for this role is $80,000 - $120,000 CAD. The range posted is a guide and may not represent the compensation offered to the successful candidate. Compensation is based on the skills, knowledge, experience and qualifications brought to the role.
