      PACCAR Embedded Engineering organization searching for talented individuals to join our Embedded Engineering Internship Program - Summer 2024 based in Kirkland, WA, or Lewisville, TX.

      The internship is expected to start around May/June and continue through August/September. This is an in-person internship for 40 hours per week for a minimum of 12 weeks.

      Organization Information

      PACCAR Embedded Engineering is a rapidly expanding organization that is transforming the way control systems and software are developed for commercial vehicle applications. This includes developing the latest vehicle controls, display technology, and autonomous truck solutions that exceed customer expectations. You will collaborate with an international, cross-functional team focused on driving superior technical solutions that maximize customer uptime and operating efficiency. Successful applicants will demonstrate individual creativity in addressing challenges and opportunities while working within a supportive team to develop industry-leading solutions for the medium- and heavy-duty truck industry.

      Position Summary

      PACCAR’s Embedded Engineering department, which serves both Kenworth and Peterbilt, is looking for curious, creative, and motivated individuals who are passionate about new technologies with a special interest in learning automotive embedded systems. During your internship with PACCAR, you’ll have the opportunity to explore new technologies, work with technical teams developing patterns and practices, execute Proof of Concept(s), and possibly lead projects. Our internship program is designed to give you real-world experience and develop skills to help you succeed, including learning first-hand from the industry’s top professionals. Internship roles in our teams provide significant independence and ownership of projects, while still providing excellent mentorship and guidance.

      Job Functions / Responsibilities

      • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, software engineers, safety engineers, and other professionals to ensure quality commercial electric vehicle designs and systems integration
      • Follow project management processes to maintain schedule and functionality
      • Ensure industry-leading quality and reliability are met, maintained, and exceeded on all components
      • Analyze system needs and requirements to influence system architecture designs
      • Develop and document engineering specifications for new vehicle control functions, including autonomous vehicles
      • Drive collaborative efforts effectively with cross-divisional counterparts on global design direction
      • Support validation activities across supplier and internal teams to ensure industry-leading quality and reliability are met, maintained, or exceeded on all components and systems

      Qualifications & Skills

      • Currently pursuing a degree in one of the following disciplines: Engineering (Electrical, Software, or Mechanical), Computer Science, or equivalent degree required
      • Exceptional problem-solving skills and a drive to develop innovative solutions
      • Ability to work in a fast-paced, lean, collaborative team environment
      • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and planning/tracking skills
      • Competency with standard office software (word processing, spreadsheets, etc.)
      • Able to learn and use new processes and techniques and resourcefully solve complex technical issues
      • Commitment to reliability, value, and quality in all aspects of work
      • Willingness to grow continuously, both personally and professionally with strong results and goal-driven orientation

      Additional Attributes

      • Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages (MATLAB/Simulink, C++, C#, etc.)
      • Demonstratable ability to analyze hardware and firmware designs
      • Active participant in a university-sponsored engineering club (EcoCar, Formula SAE, SARP, Etc.)
      • Understanding of complex design and application as it impacts electrical/electronic systems, architecture, and software-driven functionality

      Additional Job Board Information

      At PACCAR, we value talent and promote growth and development. The hourly rates for Interns are $25 per hour for undergraduates and $30 per hour for graduates. Additionally, this role is eligible for the full range of benefit options listed above.
