- Provides Emergency Medical Services (EMS) treatment and transportation in accordance with Arizona laws, Arizona Department of Health Services (DHS) rules and regulations, regional protocols, Goodyear Fire Department policies and procedures, and base station medical direction.
- Prepares EMS reports accurately and in a timely manner and demonstrates proficiency with patient care reporting software.
- Operates an emergency ambulance in emergent and non-emergent driving environments.
- Administers emergency medical care utilizing accepted guidelines of basic life support procedures in treating the sick and injured; examines patients and communicates physical assessment findings to base hospital physicians. Performs cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and inserts various oral airway adjuncts within scope of practice; applies various splints, backboards, and cervical collars.
- Operates a variety of medical equipment including but not limited to suction units, pulse oximeters, splints, oxygen administration equipment and mobile radios.
- Maintains minimum inventory of EMS equipment and supplies to assigned emergency vehicle.
- Participates in EMS training programs, community service/public safety education events and other related programs.
- Maintains awareness of City of Goodyear geography and receiving facilities in the transport area.
- Formal Education/Knowledge: Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with six months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency. Junior college, vocational, business, technical or correspondence schools are likely sources. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.

- Certifications and Other Requirements:
- Valid driver’s License
- State of Arizona Certified Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic
- CPR and BLS certifications
- Reading: Work requires the ability to read general correspondence, maps, medical terminology and abbreviations, policies, procedures, code books, and memorandums.
- Math: Work requires the ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
- Writing: Work requires the ability to write general correspondence, reports, EMS forms, request forms, memorandums, letters, and log books.
- Managerial: Job has not responsibility for the direction or supervision of others buy may provide advice/direction to an employee with less experience/skill or tenure.

- Attend and complete the City of Goodyear Employee Orientation process.
- Successfully complete EMS onboard training through the Goodyear Fire Department by utilizing PowerDMS for policy and procedure review and understanding.
- Ensure that all required EMS certifications are up to date.
- Attend at least one Rescue Task Force training, while on duty.
- Successfully complete Emergency Vehicle Operators course on an annual basis.
- Successfully pass 12-trial period.
The Goodyear Fire Department seeks a dynamic and experienced EMS professional with 2 years of experience to assume the duties of a civilian EMS provider. The Fire Department is part of the Central Arizona Automatic Aid Consortium, preference will be given to those candidates with 3-4 years of 911 experience in a suburban EMS system and be EMT certified. Previous experience within the State of Arizona is ideal. The new EMS provider will be expected to contribute to a collaborative labor/management work environment, help maintain current initiatives, create efficiencies, and assist in moving the department forward to the next level of excellence.
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is a non-sworn, non-fire suppression position in the Emergency Services Division of the Fire Department. Incumbents respond to medical emergency calls and provides basic life support and transportation services to patients. Completes patient care reporting and transportation documentation, maintain equipment, stocks EMS medical supplies, and participates in EMS related training and maintains required certifications. This position is assigned to 24-hour shifts on a 56-hour work week schedule which includes nights, weekends and holidays and is required to work mandatory overtime.
