      Job summary

      A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Emergency Nurse Practitioner team, at Mid Yorkshire teaching Trust. We are seeking to appoint and enthusiastic and highly motivated qualified Emergency Nurse Practitioner. The successful applicant would be expected to have the flexibility to work across our three sites. Including 2 emergency department and 1 Urgent Treatment centre. Our dynamic, caring and highly-motivated team are looking for and Emergency Nurse Practitioner who can communicate clearly and emphatically with patients and relatives as well as other team members, you must be able to work as an autonomous practitioner in the management of minor injuries, and be expected to cover the full compliment of the rota.

      Main duties of the job

      The primary aim of the role is to ensure that a high quality service is delivered to patients and their carers in a timely manner. The role is multidimensional and requires the post holder to integrate and fulfil all the identified dimensions. As a Registered Nurse, all activities provide opportunities for acting as a role model for staff. The Emergency Nurse Practitioner will act as an autonomous, accountable practitioner working on their own initiative and in collaboration with nursing, medical and allied health professionals to assess individual patient needs, initiate investigations, determine a differential diagnosis and initiate appropriate holistic evidence based treatment and care. In accordance with Departmental ENP Guidelines.

      Key requirements

      Being holistic in the assessment, diagnosis, initiation of appropriate treatments and independently discharge / refer patients who attend the ED over the age of 1 year. With minor injuries and illness that are specified in the ENP Guidelines.

      Completing comprehensive documentation of patients ensuring all necessary investigations are ordered and results available.

      Provision of specialist and advanced skills in patient assessment and scope of practice across a broad range of specialities including history taking and physical examination of patients presenting to the ED with injury and illnesses.

      Ordering and interpreting appropriate investigations adhering to Trust policies and within own limitations in order to provide differential diagnosis and treatment options

      Undertaking appropriate nursing duties to provide/organise essential treatment for patients referred to the different Emergency Departments, working within own boundaries and accepting own limitations

      Provide assessment of the acutely injured patient and following appropriate investigation, instigate and carry out a treatment plan

      Recognising when there is a need for escalation of treatment for medical attention and ensuring the appropriate Health Care Professional is called to facilitate optimum patient care

      Maintaining accurate, contemporaneous and timely care records

      Be responsible for the discharge of patients, compiling discharge plans and prescribing medications to take home.

      Providing nurse led discharge

      Prescribing, administering and dispensing appropriate medications for the management and treatment of patients’ symptoms within own limitations and boundaries

      Where appropriate, reviewing patients medication and ensuring adherence to Trust guidelines e.g., Antibiotic policy

      Providing support to the multidisciplinary team to enable staff and patients to make better choices for their health and that of their families

      Working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary staff in planning care for their patients

      Exercising clinical judgement and articulating why clinical decisions were made

      Respecting and promoting dignity, choice and autonomy of patients/families and carers
