      Job Summary:
      Responds to written and verbal requests for release of information of medical record documentation in accordance with confidentiality, privacy, and security policies and procedures. Ensures document integrity and performs medical record and microfilm retrieval, face-to-face and telephone patient and customer communication, and processing of incoming and outgoing mail on a daily basis. Follows established hospital and departmental policy and state and federal laws.

      Education - Required:
      • Associate's Degree in health information technology or
      • Associate's Degree in a healthcare related field or
      • High School Diploma/GED with 4 plus years of directly related experience.


      Education - Preferred:
      • Associate's Degree in health information technology.


      Experience - Required:
      • 2 years of experience with HIM and HIM-related application use or currently enrolled in a healthcare related program with an understanding of healthcare data, how it is stored and retrieved and
      • 2 years of electronic medical record (EMR) and related applications experience and
      • 2 years of previous healthcare, information systems, or acute care hospital or physician practice experience.


      Experience - Preferred:
      • 3 years of progressive HIM experience in a large, acute care setting or physician practice with HIM technology experience and
      • 2 years of Epic EMR and release of information (ROI) navigator experience.


      Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Required:
      • Excellent computer skills and understanding of Microsoft Office tools. Comfortable with computer-based workflows, systems, and applications.
      • Good stress management skills and ability to work under pressure within time constraints and within productivity guidelines.
      • Strong problem solving abilities, investigative, and analytical skills.
      • Maintains confidentiality and privacy of patient, customer, and colleague information accessed during the course of normal business.
      • Knowledge of federal and state regulations for HIPAA and release of information.
      • Knowledgeable with the electronic medical record including how to access and retrieve information from all legal medical record locations.


      Licensure - Required:
      • Drivers License Upon Hire


      Certifications - Required:
      • CRIS - Certified Release of Information Specialist within 1 Year


      Licensure - Preferred:
      • RHIT - Registered Health Information Technician Upon Hire and
      • CRIS - Certified Release of Information Specialist Upon Hire


      Additional Qualifications:
      • Ability to drive/travel to multiple locations/facilities as needed for training purposes.
