      Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Pre-Hospital Coordinator

      Part Time for Baystate Franklin Medical Center - Greenfield

      The Baystate Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Pre-hospital Coordinator will act as the Baystate Health liaison to affiliated EMS and out of hospital agencies servicing the health care system's catchment area. The incumbent will provide education and training (including skills), conduct regular EMS patient record reviews, identify areas of need and execute process improvement remediation as required. Expected to track and oversee compliance of affiliation agreements and ensure consistent and appropriate levels of service at each affiliate agency to improve and maintain patient care quality and outcomes. Additionally, the EMS & Pre-hospital Coordinator will assist in pre-hospital provider credentialing and will be responsible for maintaining records of activities related to the credentialing. The coordinator will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the EMS system principles, operations, clinical care standards and principles of CQI.

      The EMS & Pre-hospital Coordinator will engage and coordinate activities for process and communication improvement with Emergency Medical Dispatch, Fire, Police, and Emergency Management Agencies in the Baystate Health care system's catchment area. CQI for each of these agencies will be performed by the incumbent in relation to these agencies. Assisting the Chief of Division of Pre-hospital and Disaster Medicine in preparedness activities (e.g. MCI, hazmat, civil unrest, terrorism) in collaboration with local public safety agencies will be expected.

      The incumbent will assist in guiding Baystate Health with interfacility and critical care transfers. In addition, s/he will aid in developing processes and strategies to assist the Baystate Health system in pre-hospital activities to reduce hospital utilization where clinically appropriate.

      Performing continuous quality improvement (CQI) for pre-hospital care by conducting routine chart reviews of pre-hospital cases for quality protocol adherence and documentation accuracy. Format and prepare data of these reviews for analysis Review online medical control in conjunction with the BMP Division of Pre-hospital and Disaster Medicine and review tapes of CMED calls and requests for medical control. As identified, conduct route cause analysis and develop action plans to correct deficits or improve outcomes. Identify and correct trends. Provide regular feedback and updates to the BMP Division of Prehospital and Disaster Medicine Chief or designee.

      Liaison for Emergency Department(s) / hospital and affiliated EMS Services within the Baystate Health catchment area. Responsible to assist affiliate EMS Services with design, restructuring and ongoing CQI processes, as needed. Acts as a liaison between the ED staff and EMS for questions and concerns regarding care and professional interactions. Acts as a liaison between all departments within hospital i.e., operating room / Trauma and pre-hospital services. Ensures that EMS Services provides the appropriate documentation of each patient brought to the ED by EMS Services or agencies.

      Track, maintain and oversee for compliance all affiliation agreements the health system maintains with EMS agencies, first responder agencies, dispatch centers and accredited training institutions.

      Liaison to affiliated allied health programs in catchment area. Expected to provide education and training for personnel answering medical control radio requests. Establish and conduct allied health educational courses for local EMS Services as a source of education for the EMTs. Assist with research studies and grants in BH EMS as assigned. Maintains records of all education activities.

      Requirements License/Certifications

      • High School/GED Required, Bachelors preferred.
      • 5 years paramedic field experience and be fully knowledgeable of Massachusetts EMS system laws and regulations including EMTALA regulations and interfacility transfer requirements.
      • Experience in EMS operations
      • Paramedic (MA) OR National Registry Paramedic (NRP) Required
      • Driver’s License Required
      • BLS/CPR, ACLS & PALS Required

      Skills/Competencies:

      • EMS clinical education.
        Skill in evaluating the knowledge and technical skills of EMS providers, CQI.
      • This role will require travel up to 50% of the time throughout Western MA.
