      Earn while you learn to be an Emergency Medical Technician

      American Medical Response - Erlanger is offering a unique opportunity for individuals interested in a rewarding career in pre-hospital medicine.

      What is an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)?

      The primary focus of the EMT is to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation, and functions as part of a comprehensive EMS response under medical oversight. An EMT performs interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance and is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system.

      About the Program:

      The eligible candidate will be hired as an employee and compensated a training wage while in attendance at EMT Academy at AMR-Erlanger. The Academy is a rigorous ten week program which qualifies the employee to take the EMT National Registry and local area protocols exam. There is no cost for the class and all books, tuition, fees and uniforms will be paid by AMR Erlanger. Class will meet Monday through Friday from 9am to 4pm. Upon successful completion of the class, all tests and state certification, the employee will be transferred to an EMT position with an increase to the EMT compensation rate.

      The right candidates must:

      • Be at least 18 years old
      • Have proof of a HS diploma or GED
      • Valid Driver’s License
      • Have all required immunizations
      • Successfully complete the pre-employment screening which includes motor vehicle and criminal background checks, drug testing and a physical agility test

      What happens after passing the course?

      After successful completion of the course, the employee will be required to pass the EMT National Registry and local area protocols exam. Upon successful completion, the employee will be required to work for AMR-Erlanger for a period of at least one full year and assigned their full time shift, along with completing new employee training.

      They will also qualify for benefits including:
