      JOB SUMMARY FOR BASIC EMT, ADVANCED EMT, PARAMEDIC:
      A EMT Basic is a highly specialized health care professional who responds to medical and trauma emergencies in the pre-hospital (out-of-hospital) environment for the purpose of stabilizing and transporting the patient to an appropriate medical facility by ambulance.
      An Emergency Medical Technician -Basic is the initial level of training for EMTs. EMT-B skills include CPR, first aid, airway management, oxygen administration, spinal immobilization, bleeding control and traction splinting. EMT-Basics are also trained in use of the pharyngeo-tracheal lumen ("PTL") or CombiTube advanced airway adjuncts, and the activation of aeromedical assets.
      EDUCATION:
      Graduation from an ADPH approved Basic Program
      LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
      Licensure by the ADPH as a Basic
      Valid Alabama motor vehicle operator’s license
      Must maintain ADPH Credentialing
      A EMT Advanced is a highly specialized health care professional who responds to medical and trauma emergencies in the pre-hospital (out-of-hospital) environment for the purpose of stabilizing and transporting the patient to an appropriate medical facility by ambulance.
      An Emergency Medical Technician -Advanced is the level of training between Basic (EMT-B) and Paramedic. Intermediate is a level of training that allows several more invasive procedures than are allowed at the basic level, including IV therapy, endotrachael intubation, use of cardiac monitors/ECGs, and provides for enhanced assessment skills.

      EDUCATION:
      Graduation from an ADPH approved Advanced Program
      LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
      Licensure by the ADPH as an Advanced.
      Valid Alabama motor vehicle operator’s license
      Must maintain ADPH Credentialing
      A Paramedic is a highly specialized health care professional who responds to medical and trauma emergencies in the pre-hospital (out-of-hospital) environment for the purpose of stabilizing and transporting the patient to an appropriate medical facility by ambulance.
      Paramedics function under the authority and indirect supervision of a physician, both through standing protocols (off-line medical control) or through direct physician consultation.
      EDUCATION:
      Graduation from an ADPH approved Paramedic Program
      LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
      Licensure by the ADPH as a Paramedic.
      Valid Alabama motor vehicle operator’s license
      Must maintain ADPH Credentialing
