- Actively participates in the safe delivery of patient care and maintains a safe environment for all patients, using basic life support (BLS) scope of practice
- Administers medical treatment in a caring and compassionate manner, according to SHCGB, CT State & Trumbull EMS policies, procedures and established standards of care, thus promoting positive public relations for the company and the EMS profession
- Demonstrates flexibility, as patient needs change and the ability to communicate the need for additional assistance when necessary
- Seeks direction from other healthcare team members when necessary in order to clarify a patient's need or condition
- Is aware of scope of practice as EMT and functions within this scope, based on regional and state protocols
- Provides effective team leadership on calls and during shift
- Assumes roles of patient advocate & provides for the patient/family needs for psychological, emotional or spiritual support in an empathetic manner
- Maintains confidentiality of all patients, employees, corporate records, and patient records in accordance with current HIPAA guidelines
- Safely operates and assists in the maintenance of Town of Trumbull vehicles as required
- Performs daily vehicle maintenance check and cleans both the inside and outside of assigned unit on a daily basis, including replenishing medical equipment and supplies as needed
- Monitors and properly operates all communications equipment to ensure efficient, constant, and appropriate contact with the communications department
- Responds to all requests for service in an optimal manner and the priority of response when directed by the dispatcher
- Produces accurate, legible, and complete documentation on all calls per SHCGB guidelines and TEMS policy.
- Is receptive to Trumbull EMS CQA/CQI and SHCGB Medical Control feedback regarding treatment of patients and follows their judgment
- Is able to communicate all pertinent patient information to medical personnel directly involved with patient care in compliance with local protocols and in accordance with Department of Public Services and HIPAA Guidelines
- Works with colleagues and other agencies in a spirit of teamwork, professionalism and goal attainment
- Exhibits excellent customer service skills and behaviors toward internal and external customers and co-workers, & assists in the orientation of new employees and ongoing field training activities
- Demonstrates personal commitment to the TEMS core values through active involvement in clinical care, community outreach and the performance improvement (CQA/CQI) process
- Demonstrates safe work practices and attitudes, follows safety rules, works to prevent unsafe conditions and behaviors, and participates in organizational and departmental safety programs.
- Participate in community programs to maintain Trumbull EMS image and establish strong community relations
- Attends available workshops and seminars to enhance clinical skills, mandatory in service education & staff meetings
- Maintain all required certifications in order to meet requirements of job
- Carries out other duties as assigned
- Work is delivered in all conditions including severe and extreme weather
- Work involves exposure to infectious disease, bodily fluids, blood or tissue
- Must be able to successfully pass Town Of Trumbull Physician Screening Assessment
- Aptitudes required for work of this nature are good physical stamina, endurance, and body condition that would not be adversely affected by frequently having to walk, stand, lift, carry, and balance at times
- Must be able to lift, drag, hoist, and carry different types of equipment and other objects
- Available to work daytime, evenings, holidays, and/or weekends
- Must have a high level of demonstrable proficiency as an EMT.
- Working knowledge of computers and office equipment.
- Possess clinical literacy.
- Comprehensive knowledge of HIPAA compliance.
- Must possess excellent written and verbal communications skills.
- Demonstrate experience in interacting collaboratively with multiple agencies and/or authorities.
- Working knowledge of grant research and application processes.
- Must possess excellent problem solving skills.
- General familiarity with Federal and State laws and regulation pertaining to OEMS.
- Experience responding to emergency calls while in a leader capacity to assist in times of heavier call volume.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Outlook, and Excel).
- High School Diploma or GED
- CT State Certified EMT, minimum 1 year field experience
- CT Driver’s license in good standing, ability to obtain one within 90 day of hire if from out of state.
- Driving record in compliance with Town of Trumbull & Trumbull EMS Vehicle & Driving Policy
- Current AHA CPR certification
- NIMS 100, 200, 700
- Minimum 2 years in high call volume service
TOWN OF TRUMBULL EMT – FULL TIME
EMS Salary: Starting Rate $26.42 PER HOUR
General Statement of Duties
Full time EMT is a 40 hour per week position responsible for responding and providing emergency care to citizens of Trumbull and surrounding communities when called upon. EMT will follow all policies and procedures to the best of their ability. EMT will act professional and polite when interacting with any member of the community. EMT is expected to work a schedule involving days, evenings, night, holidays and weekends. Shifts are bid on by full time employees but rules to bid are subject to change by director of EMS to meet the needs of the department. EMT will act as a team leader in absence of EMS supervisory staff.
