Attends an approved BSMH approved EMT Basic course while employed.
Complete weekly assignments as assigned (e.g., maintains proper reports and records, observes the dispatch center, and shadows leaders, maintenance for vehicle and equipment, orders and stocks supplies, etc.).
Participates in mandatory trainings (e.g., ambulette training, Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC), first aid, etc.)
Partners with EMT Basic for patient transports.

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Trainee will work under direct supervision of assigned Preceptor within Bon Secours Mercy Health (BSMH). The EMT Trainee will assist staff with patient or non-patient duties as assigned while attending an approved EMT Basic Course.

Licensing/Certification
Valid state driver's license (required)
Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) (required within 3 months of hire)
American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Certification (required within 3 months of hire)
EMT Basic Course Completion (required within 6 months of hire)
EMT State of Ohio National Registry license (obtained within 3 months of course completion)
STNA (State Tested Nursing Aide) (preferred)
Education
High School Diploma or GED (required)
Work Experience
1 year experience with incident-free driving (required)
1 year experience as a STNA (State Tested Nursing Aide) or Medical background (preferred)

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.
Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age, specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.
