- The candidate will primarily work with members of the HIV prevention/case management team.
- The EHE intern's focus will be on the EHE Grant's activities and providing research-related support to the project.
- The purpose of this internship is to engage in community engagement and be exposed to real-world public health work, which includes public health campaigns, interagency collaborative teams, communication, and evaluation.
- Maintain databases and tracking systems to monitor program progress and evaluate results, while also overseeing and gathering data.
- Ensure that sensitive HIV-related data and HIV needs assessment are protected from both confidentiality and security.
- Assisting with logistical and organizational tasks related to the EHE grant.
- Creating draft PowerPoint presentations, reports, and other deliverables of research findings for overarching reports/summaries for awardees.
- Collaborate with local organizations and health departments to engage at-risk populations and provide them with resources and information.
- Participate in the creation and EHE initiatives and distribution of educational materials.
- Manage the logistics for events, meetings, and training sessions that are related to EHE initiatives.
- Complete research-related administrative tasks when needed (e.g., formatting reports).
- Creating, executing, and analyzing a survey, focus groups, or other data.
- Assist with the scheduling of training and capacity building/technical assistance activities.
- Collaborate with the training manager to assign and contact both internal and external content experts/trainers to provide training as required.
- Coordinate curriculum review activities with the training manager as needed.
- Assist in preparing reports for the director and funders and reviews and analyzes information and data about the BPHC program to determine its effectiveness.
- Implements appropriate fiscal management systems to ensure compliance with grant obligations; manages/oversees the development and oversight of RFPs and grants.
- Manages and oversees the distribution of all communications and educational materials in accordance with Commission policy while under program management oversight.
- Ensures and maintains effective communication among community organizations, city agencies, coalition members, and residents, and develops strategies to support project activities.
- Manages meetings, events, and activities required for the effective implementation of program goals.
- Either currently enrolled or recently completed graduate program in public health, epidemiology, healthcare, or a related field.
- Commitment to promoting public health, preventing HIV, and ensuring healthcare equality.
- Capacity to work efficiently in a team and independently.
- Passionate commitment to health equity and racial/social justice issues.
- Proficient in data analysis tools and software, with strong analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn about the role of public health in addressing racism, the social determinants of health, and inequities in health outcomes as well as strategies to advance racial justice and health equity.
- Commitment to achieving racial and health equity, and the inclusion of diverse thoughts, backgrounds, and perspectives.
- Knowledge of virtual communication platforms like Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
- Knowledge of Microsoft software, primarily Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong storytelling, communication, and interpersonal skills. Can take personal initiative and exercise independent judgment.
- Knowledge of HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, and relevant policies is a plus.
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn about the role of public health in addressing racism, the social determinants of health, and inequities in health outcomes as well as strategies to advance racial justice and health equity.

Job Description

PROGRAM/DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
The Education and Community Engagement (ECE) Division within BPHC's Infectious Diseases Bureau has been awarded the Ending the HIV Epidemic (EHE) Grant
About the grant
Education and Community Engagement (ECE) Division serves as the grantee for the Ending the HIV Epidemic (EHE) Initiative. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Ending the HIV Epidemic (EHE) initiative aims to reduce the number of new HIV infections in the United States by at least 90 percent by 2030 with the goal of decreasing the number of new HIV infections to fewer than 3,000 per year. Reducing new infections to this
level would essentially mean that HIV transmissions would be rare and meet the definition of ending the epidemic. ECE is responsible for developing new and innovative strategies to link people with HIV who are either newly diagnosed or are diagnosed but currently not in care, to essential HIV care and treatment and support services in Suffolk County.
ECE'S Engagement
The EHE grant expands ECE's current HIV and STI prevention work to develop and enhance access to a comprehensive continuum of high-quality, community-based care for low-income individuals and families with HIV disease in the 10 counties including in the Boston Eligible Metropolitan Area (EMA). Responsible staff within the ECE Division include the Division Director and the Senior Program Manager for Prevention and Training.
During the project, we will strengthen existing partnerships between BPHC and community organizations serving high-need Boston neighborhoods. A key area of focus will be BIPOC communities, MSM, and People living with HIV. The Infectious Diseases Bureau will support the training of BPHC staff and community partners programs on HIV Stigma reduction and recommendations, as well as culturally appropriate and trauma-informed strategies.
EHE Job Overview
The length of the role is 6+ months. The EHE Intern will support the goals and objectives of the Ending the HIV Epidemic initiative by working closely with a team of public health professionals, epidemiologists, and healthcare experts. This internship provides a unique chance to gain practical experience in the field of HIV prevention, treatment, and research while actively contributing to efforts to combat the HIV epidemic.
