      Chief Engineer - Energy Storage Solutions

      Reporting to a Senior Toyota Industries leader, the Chief Engineer is responsible for providing leadership in all activities related to the development and delivery of advanced Energy Solutions for lift truck applications including Lithium Ion Batteries, Fuel Cells, and other energy storage/generation products/systems from specification, design, release, regulatory approval, enhancement, quality assurance, implementation, and support. The Energy Storage Solutions (ESS) business unit is a “startup within an established, global company” offering the unique opportunity for the Chief Engineer to be the site leader for the Rochester Toyota Material Handling North America Energy Solutions development center, leading technical aspects of an emerging business with the support of an established world known company and brand.

      The Chief Engineer will cultivate an environment that attracts, deploys, and retains the human and other resources required to effectively foster innovation necessary to develop, deliver, and support world class technologies that will provide value to the company’s customers, while meeting the business strategy and goals for profitable growth.

      In achieving this, the Chief Engineer will establish design systems, processes, and metrics with a view to minimizing costs and waste while maximizing scheduling, manufacturability, and quality outputs. The Chief Engineer will ensure adherence to established design development processes and interface with Toyota Material Handling and Raymond Corporation to ensure proper Energy Solutions integration to the vehicle. In addition, they will be responsible for establishing a development facility to support the fast cycle time of development required for this sector of products and promote collaboration with other Toyota organizations in North America and beyond.

      Functional Requirements of the Position:

      • Lead the development of the engineering strategy and the supporting technology and product roadmaps.
      • Lead the creation of scalable development platforms which meet current organizational requirements, anticipate future growth and complexity, and balance the need for predictability and creative license.
      • Develop successful energy storage solutions fulfilling all customer requirements.
      • Fiscal responsibility for the engineering team.
      • Maintain awareness of the trends and technologies related to Energy Storage Solutions.
      • Establish KPIs.
      • Build and facilitate strong relationships within the entire global organizations and throughout the supply chain.
      • Interface directly with Toyota Material Handling in Japan regarding relevant technology and participate in global working groups representing North America.
      • Ensure efficient use of engineering resources including establishing and maintaining succession plans.
      • Ensure adherence to existing internal processes.

      Education Requirement:

      • Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems.

      Experience Requirement:

      • 15+ years of total experience with at least 8 years of management and leadership experience.
      • System engineering experience in leading battery and fuel cell technology development through commercial execution.
      • Experience developing cross functional technical teams.

      About the total compensation package:

      Salary - $175,000+ per year. Compensation depends on the selected candidate’s education and experience.

      Relocation – This position may qualify for relocation.
