Job Description
- Req#: 3052
- Design, create and stamp residential and commercial HVAC system design drawings using computer heating/cooling load software, CAD software and drawing plotters. Provide complete project documentation, correspondence and follow up as needed
- Interact with various building and energy efficiency industry representatives and act as a Company representative. This includes participating on industry committees, attending organizational meetings and attending job related association events
- Research, comment on and apply current and new natural gas technology and governmental regulations (local, state & national) that impact the natural gas industry and the use of natural gas
- Review and provide engineering technical assistance to SWG State Regulatory Affairs regarding the creation and application of residential and commercial rebates
- Review and advise (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection and security) SWG Facilities on new construction and renovation projects
- Work with energy efficiency industry representatives, consulting organizations and emerging technologies with a primary focus on promoting energy conservation measures through preliminary energy audits and investment grade energy audits
- Assist in incorporating and applying new technologies for residential, commercial, industrial and Federal customers
- Communicate (written and orally) with Company employees about energy and natural gas related issues including energy efficiency and resiliency projects
- Provide necessary engineering analysis, opinions and recommendations where applicable
- Provide solutions to outside customers on the use of traditional and non-traditional natural gas applications and solve customers’ problems with innovative uses of natural gas; This includes energy efficiency technology and alternate energy source solutions for Federal customers
- Analyze natural gas pricing volatility as it relates to the competitiveness of traditional and non-traditional equipment uses within the industry
- Work with internal customers to develop cost effective solutions for serving external customers through the use of energy efficiency rebates, industry incentives and Federal energy conservation measure project grants
- Develop and utilize industry partnerships to promote diverse energy efficient design solutions that maximize the benefits of natural gas and other energy sources which may be applicable
- Educate the public on the uses of natural gas by participating on panel discussions and by presenting at energy related conferences or seminars
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned
- Regular and predictable attendance is a condition of employment and is an essential function of the job
The Energy Utilization Engineer (EUE) works with both internal and external customers to promote the traditional (burners) uses of natural gas and non-traditional uses of natural gas (engines/chemical reactions) in residential, commercial and industrial applications in all of the Southwest Gas (SWG) service territories. Traditional natural gas uses include but are not limited to; boilers, space heaters, cooking equipment. Non-traditional gas uses include but are not limited to; utility energy services contract projects, natural gas vehicles, power generation, gas heat pumps, absorption environment control, fuel cells and temporary power solutions. The EUE is a self-starter engineering consultant with a technical background that supports and influences Company, customer and Federal customer projects which include aspects of project management, energy management and verification duties.
POSITION DIMENSIONS
This position does not have any accountability for people or budgets.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a minimum of four to five years of equivalent relative work experience and a bachelor’s degree in engineering from an approved four year College or University. Must have a current Professional Engineering License for the State of Nevada and/or the State of Arizona (dual licensure is preferable). Also must have experience with Autodesk AutoCAD computer software and Windows Office (Excel, Power Point & Word) software.
Preferred experience as a licensed consulting engineer, experience with current residential (Elite Rhvac) and commercial (Carrier HAP) HVAC load sizing software and Windows based software. Knowledge of Nevada and Arizona building codes (International Building Codes, Uniform Mechanical Code and Uniform Plumbing Code), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Energy Star program, U.S. Green Building Council LEED program, Lawrence Berkley National Laboratories and Southwest Energy Efficiency Project; and the operation and use of various types of residential, commercial and industrial natural gas equipment are preferred. Good communication skills and the ability to present technical information to large groups, organizations and customers preferred. Project management experience is also preferred.

$95,065 - $142,597
