      ABOUT THIS POSITION:

      The Office of the Secretary of the Commonwealth is seeking an Enforcement Attorney for its Securities Division.

      The Massachusetts Securities Division’s (the “Division”) mission is to protect investors and the securities markets through enforcement of the Commonwealth’s securities laws. The Enforcement Section conducts investigations into potential violations of the Commonwealth’s securities laws pursuant to chapter 110A of the Massachusetts General Laws (the “Act”). The Enforcement Section enforces the Act and is tasked with protecting investors and the securities markets. When warranted, the Enforcement Section brings administrative proceedings to prevent future infractions and seeks redress for prior violations of the Act.

      Enforcement Attorneys are provided an exceptional opportunity to immediately gain meaningful first-chair experience working on cutting-edge issues in securities law. Enforcement attorneys are expected to organize work priorities, develop litigation strategies, draft complaints, and pursue administrative relief. It is expected that enforcement attorneys will develop experience in all aspects of the Securities Division’s investigations and administrative proceedings.

      KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

      • Develop investigative or litigation plans and adjusts as appropriate during the course of an investigation.
      • Draft subpoenas and other requests for documents, questions witnesses through interviews, testimony, or depositions, evaluating documentary or testimonial evidence, and preparing litigation-related documents.
      • Assess the quality, accuracy and relevance of information or data, analyzing information to identify relationships and trends, and integrating and synthesizing facts.
      • Communicate with Division officials at all levels, including supervisors, coworkers, staff in private industry and other agencies.
      • Organize work, setting priorities, and determining short- or long-term goals and strategies to achieve them.
      • Develop innovative solutions to address issues and problems or involving novel or unexplored questions of law or policy.

      QUALIFICATIONS:

      • Applicants must have a J.D. and be a member in good standing of the Massachusetts bar.
      • Applicants are expected to possess at least two years of post-J.D. experience in a legal setting with a demonstrated history of exercising sound judgment and displaying professionalism while identifying issues, conducting research, providing thoughtful analysis and recommendations, drafting well-written motions and pleadings, and actively participating in all phases of litigation.
      • Exceptional writing and verbal communication skills are required.
      • Well-qualified applicants are organized, efficient, and highly-motivated self-starters who are committed to public service. Our hybrid model allows for one telework day per week for most positions.

      Prior litigation experience and/or experience in the financial services industry is preferred, but not required.
