      The Engagement Compliance Specialist ensures compliance in client relationships, including conflicts research, contractual term analysis, ethical wall implementation and enforcement, document coding, diligence, and interpreting financial and risk information. The Engagement Compliance Specialist prepares responses to client requests about the firm's processes and representation.

      Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

      • Conduct daily firmwide engagement compliance activities.

      • Partner with the marketing department to perform conflicts research on publications and media-related conflicts checks, including analyzing firm data to identify existing client relationships.

      • Evaluate and interpret contractual provisions in Outside Counsel Policies and engagement letters and perform coding to support cross-departmental review and enforcement of the firm’s engagement requirements.

      • Assess conflicts waivers to determine the need for ethical walls; manage the ethical wall system, addressing attorney and staff inquiries about the logic behind ethical screens and determining access permissions for users.

      • Conduct creditworthiness and risk assessments of clients using credit reports, financial statements (if applicable), payment history, and various diligence applications during client onboarding; recommend risk mitigation strategies for higher-risk clients, such as retainers, credit limits, and limiting scopes of work.

      • Coordinate the completion of client-requested documentation, including questionnaires and audits, by collaborating with various departments and synthesizing collected information; maintain firm submissions in the document repository.

      • Collaborate with the Engagement Compliance team to address onboarding risks and ongoing risks associated with client engagements.

      • Monitor potentially problematic client relationships and communicate with relevant team members.

      • Implement and enforce departmental and firm standards related to engagement compliance functions.

      • Maintain confidential information related to client matters and engagement responsibilities.

      Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

      • Proficient in analyzing information and effectively communicating and documenting risks and appropriate responses, with the ability to escalate issues when necessary.

      • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.

      • Capable of multitasking, prioritizing, and producing detailed and accurate work.

      • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a client-service orientation.

      • Able to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively within a team.

      • Professional demeanor with the ability to build rapport and gain the trust and confidence of lawyers.

      • Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Experience with document management systems (iManage), intake workflow systems (InTapp, including Terms and Ethical Walls), and research software tools is a plus.

      • Strong analytical skills and the ability to work in a high-pressure environment and perform well under pressure.

      Education and/or Experience:

      • Bachelor's Degree, with a preference for degrees in business, business administration, accounting, finance, or legal-related fields such as legal studies, political science, or paralegal studies.

      • Minimum of two (2) years' experience assessing financial information, including credit reports, financial statements, and other financial metrics.

      • Prior experience working in a law firm preferred.
