- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial or Civil Engineering, or Engineering Technology.
- 0-5 years or more experience required
- Experience designing electrical distribution systems preferred
- Knowledge of electrical engineering design, drafting techniques, high voltage in relation to distribution, distribution construction standards and practices, Company’s engineering and distribution operations and procedures, Company policies and procedures, and applicable electrical and safety codes and standards.
- Knowledge of voltage drop calculations.
- Knowledge of the calculations of fault currents and their application to coordination studies.
- Knowledge of power flow calculations and ability to collect data and model feeders in power flows.
- Knowledge of system’s overcurrent protection policies and practices.
- Knowledge of surveying methods, materials used, and mechanical concepts.
- Ability to plan for and meet project deadlines and oversees all necessary construction to provide electrical service.
- Ability to obtain Infrared Thermography Certification.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions.
- Ability to operate a personal computer and use various computer software applications.
- Ability to work in confined spaces, receive and maintain certifications and training.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with officers, managers, fellow employees, and the public.
- Ability to maintain a strong sense of propriety concerning confidential matters.
- Analyzes field data, and design work orders to perform corrective actions to remedy power quality.
- Design work orders to accomplish various tasks dealing with Company Service Betterment, such as Company owned facility rebuilds, public safety concerns, and distribution system equipment.
- Utilizes the referral system to respond to customer outage concerns. Analyzes data and proposes corrective actions, create a work order and maintain constant communication with the customer.
- Works independently with minimal supervision and makes sound business decisions.
- Designs work orders for the construction of system and service betterment facilities.
- Assists engineers in identifying and analyzing root causes for system reliability problems and determines a plan for corrective action to include thermography scanning and reporting.
- Performs fault studies and makes recommendations for the use of sectionalizing devices.
- Collects and analyzes system information for modeling the distribution system in power flows and creates these models in power flow software.
- Secures easements and permits with the assistance of the Right-of-Way Department when necessary.
- Marks locations for new facilities and/or new line routes.
- Performs general field functions and sketches.
- Surveys terrain and takes various design measurements.
- Coordinates activities with Company staff, other utilities, and a variety of agencies.
- Provides preliminary information on the Company’s requirements and resolves possible design conflicts with customers, developers, contractors, governmental agencies, and other utilities.
- Represents the Company at meetings and provides information on the Company’s requirements and resolves possible design conflicts with customers, developers, contractors, governmental agencies, and other utilities.
- Prepares requisitions for the purchase of non-stock materials, equipment, and/or services required for work order construction.
- Assures adherence to applicable general construction methods, concepts, policies, standards, codes, and safety procedures and practices.
- Participates in the Distribution Operations Duty rotation.
- Might be required to provide and use your own cellphone for communication with customers and other entities.
- Valid driver’s license and be in compliance with the Company’s Driving Program policy.
- Complies with all applicable Company policies, procedures, and code of ethics as well as all applicable governmental laws and regulations to include employment, safety and environmental standards and regulations.

STARTING SALARY: $67,400 - 120,000. Salary is commensurate with experience.
JOB FAMILY SUMMARY PURPOSE:
Under the general supervision of the Supervisor – Distribution Systems Design is responsible for acting as the liaison between the Company and customers, contractors, builders, and engineers in relation to the design and coordination of the construction of electrical distribution facilities, including designing and coordinating the construction of Company driven Service Betterment to maintain and improve the distribution system. Analyze and determine corrective action for power quality, and infrared scans.

The incumbents in this classification are subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions and temperature changes of extreme cold weather (below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour) and extreme hot weather (temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour); and are exposed to loud noises, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, oils, and electrical current and nominal voltages of 600 volts or less.
