b. What will happen if there is no one in the position (no one performs the work)?
a) ‘Engine design’ needs to be developed into an engine component and validated -
- To achieve engine level performance & vehicle level performance
- To comply with all applicable emission norms for engine
- Integration of engine on vehicle for optimum vehicle performanceThis position gives confirmation on all important design parameters required for considering optimum performance of engine that can finally be delivered for vehicle production
b) 1.If this position does not exist there will be concerns for regulatory compliance of engine
2. There will not be anyone to support the vehicle during its lifecycle
3. Engine won’t be able to give an optimum performance
With increased electronics onto the base engine architecture and exhaust after-treatment systems, the position has become extremely important to ensure balance on legislative & customer requirements; often falling into technical trade-offs.
Dimensions of the position
This position takes care of all activities related engine development in mechanical and calibration domains for any of CV, PV or other applicationPersonal Profile
Education BE/B.Tech, ME/MTech (Mechanical, Automotive, Mechatronics)
(ME/MTech will be preferred)
Technical Skills 1. Sound knowledge on engine and engine sub-systems
2. Thermodynamic aspects of engine performance
3. Awareness on automotive control systems theory & basic electronics
4. Engine calibration technique through relevant software (INCA, VISU, Design of Experiments)Relevant Experience :
Min 3 years of experience in engine calibration
Key Responsibilities:S.N. Key Responsibility & Key Tasks Measures
1 • Engine combustion optimisation for performance, fuel consumption and emissions
• Engine calibration as per desired performance on engine test cell / vehicle
• Use of DoE and advanced calibration techniques to reduce development time
• Prepare DVP(Design Validation Plan) for part level design to systematically carry out testing and calibration activities
• Plan and accordingly assign work to team members to adhere to project timeline and meeting the quality norms • Productivity improvements of functionEducation
B TechBE( Electrical/Electronics)Work Experience
2 • Approve quality of engine components received to help in arriving desired test results before start of testing
• Analyse EMS(engine management system) data received through various software like INCA,VISU, AVL-PUMA,CAMEO, Indicom after each testing is carried out to calibrate engine sub-systems to achieve desired engine performance as per targets
• Monitor and complete requirement of applicable regulatory compliances Timely delivery of Project Milestones
3 Identify and validate the appropriate solution to deliver timely resolution to customer complaints related to powertrain and its subsystems by analysing details of customer complain
PCA( Permanent Corrective action)=90 days for 80% of issues
4 Understand and follow the WCQ framework to achieve world class quality in Engine design and development processes by completing all required documentation
As per WCQ5 Provide appropriate solution on issues/ DCR raised by production and AQ team to streamline the production activities by interacting with concerned stakeholders along with design validation by analysing the production issues 100 % resolution of the Production support requests.
6 Benchmarking product & processes and contribute ideas on design and testing to identify and implement opportunities in part cost saving or other value addition by participating in brainstorming session Reduce Engine aggregate cost through Value Analysis & Value Engineering (VAVE)
7 • Identify opportunity in specific design or process change to help in better performance
• Deliberate on the ideas explored with the team,
• Validate the design results post an idea is finalised.
• prepare documents and follow up with IPR team to complete the IPR filing Enhance IPR portfolio for culture of invention & development of Engineering knowledge & solutions.
8 Strengthen Safety culture and bring discipline in department and shop floor for ensuring adherence to safety norms

3. Understanding of Mechatronics aspects of Engine / Vehicle
