      Enbridge Measurement Design and Systems department is currently seeking an Engineer III. Measurement Design and Systems supports the design, fabrication, installation and maintenance of all natural gas measurement, pressure and flow control related pipeline facilities throughout North Carolina.

      This position is responsible for the design of all mechanical facilities containing natural gas meters, regulators, and relief valves for Enbridge Gas North Carolina. This will be customer facilities such as small residential to large industrial meters and internal facilities for the utility such as small distribution stations up to large power generation supply facilities. This position will create fabrication grade drawings for pipeline facilities in partnership with internal drafting support, peer engineers and engineering departments throughout the company and our customer facing sales representatives. This position will work with the Materials Committee to evaluate, select and specify materials to be used in designs as well as evaluate material failures.

      This position will be located at the Company’s Corporate HQ in Gastonia, North Carolina.

      What You Will Do:

      • Designs and plans pipeline and mechanical systems projects in support of North Carolina’s natural gas distribution and transmission piping networks.
      • Performs all metering design and standard development, primarily for industrial customers.
      • Manages metering and regulating application, sizing, and technical support.
      • Assists with the preparation of project drawings.
      • Completes cost estimation for gas system facility projects.
      • Conducts material evaluation, specification, and approval for new and existing gas facility products.
      • Coordinates and manages outside engineering resources.
      • Develops process and materials standards.
      • Supports and trains other engineers and office staff.
      • Develops subject matter expertise in key technical areas.

      Who You Are:

      Minimum 5+ years relevant engineering design and construction experience in the natural gas or similar industry.

      • Demonstrated successful leadership experience executing large capital projects (and accountable for cost, schedule, safety, compliance).
      • Provide guidance to less experienced engineers.
      • Ability to manage risks and address technical and commercial issues.
      • Extensive construction and field experience.
      • Ability to communicate in an effective and professional manner with external customers and fellow employees.
      • Advanced mathematic skills
      • Advanced computer skills, including a demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office software and CAD drafting software.
      • Knowledge and understanding of standard pipeline welding processes and procedures.

      Preferred:

      • Professional Engineer (PE) within North Carolina, OR, the ability to obtain one of these designations within six months of employment.
      • Natural gas utility engineering and/or operations experience.
      • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements (including but not limited to Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 49 Part 192, Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) regulations, and North Carolina Utilities Commission (NCUC) regulations.
      • Advanced computer proficiency (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, MicroStation and/or AutoCAD).

      Education

      Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering

      • Mechanical or Civil Engineering degrees are preferred.

      Required Engineering Criteria:

      • Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
      • Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or
      • Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

      Other Working Conditions:

      • The applicant must possess a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel to offices and project sites within the NC service territories.

      Physical Requirements include but are not limited to:

      Grasping, kneeling, light – moderate lifting (objects up to 20 pounds), reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, typing, sitting, standing, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement and the ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time.

      Ability to: understand, remember and apply oral and/or written instructions or other information, understand complex problems and collaborate/explore alternative solutions, organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology, organize and prioritize work schedule on a short-term basis, make decisions which have moderate impact on the immediate work unit and monitor impact outside this area, understand and follow basic instructions and guidelines, complete routine forms, compose letters, outlines, memoranda and basic reports and communicate with individuals via telephone.
